toddmanley 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 I've been using a new pair of CCM U+07 and they have been great except for one thing. After about an hours worth of skating I get a really intense hotspot under the ball of each foot (yes, both feet). I've been using Superfeet insoles from day 1 with these skates and I'm miffed about why this is happening. I might go and try a thinner sock to see if that makes any difference next time out.Any advice out there?-Thanks, Todd
rachael7 1 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Check the rivets to see if they're pressed nice and flat. I've gotten hotspots there from rivets that stuck up a too much.
fiimb 1 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 sounds like your skates are bit too big?
toddmanley 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 sounds like your skates are bit too big?Nope, I wouldn't say that to be the case. When I was at the LHS we spent a good 45 minutes trying on all different brands/sizes to get find something that worked best. I'll check the rivets to see if those could be the culprits. Jarick 5 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Is it an arch pain? When I first bought my skates after about 5 minutes I'd get terrible pain right under the ball of each foot. The problem in my case was the skate was too narrow and when I'd skate and my foot would expand there was nowhere to go, so they cramped up. Having them stretched out fixed the issue completely. toddmanley 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 No arch pain. I do quite a bit of cycling, and it's the same hot foot sensation you get sometimes when you're doing a long 80+ mile ride in hot weather.
toddmanley 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 It's the rivets. After inspecting the insoles it's pretty clear to see that rivets on both feet are tearing up the underside of the Superfeet insoles. Is there anything I can do on my own to fix the problem?

Is there anything I can do on my own to fix the problem? If you count taking them to a shop and having them remove and replace the rivets "on your own" then yes you can :) If they aren't busy (pretty likely midsummer) and have someone who knows how to use the machine available they should be able to do it in under 15 min. But rest assured this is not a send them off to the manufacturer and wait kind of problem.

Front ones are tough to reach though.
toddmanley 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 It was just easier for me to head over to the LHS for their assistance. After describing the problem to them, they looked at the skates and said, "Yup, that would be a big problem."After replacing 3 rivets on the right skate and 2 on the left skate, they handed them back to me and the previous problem areas were smooth and almost 100% flush. I dorked out and brought the skates to work this morning figuring that if my feet could survive being laced in for my 2.5 hours while participating in conference calls then my issue would be fixed. After lacing up the skates tight and pacing around the office during the calls, the feet felt much better and I experienced no pain.
shotty 7 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 that's hilarious. I've done that many times with ski touring boots before trips... just to make sure.
