Revision Vanquish - First Run

Recommended Posts

Hi

Received my Revision Vanquish skates today.

Ordering process was very good - got them from the European site - a guy called Tim helped me out with the order (nummer55 on this forum I think) and even threw in a free set of wheels. Very personal service which was nice.

The purchase was a bit of a risk for me, being a Mission boy since I started roller hockey, but risks make life more interesting. I like having 'different' stuff anyway, I usually order kit from the USA (eBay) as it means I have much more choice than in England, and get to have something different to everyone else.

Here's a few pics after my first skate (there aren't enough pictures on the web so this might help someone out one day):

I'm not getting them baked until Sunday, but wanted to have a go tonight. First few thoughts:

---- They did rub just below the ankle and I had to stop after 45 minutes, but again, this is because i'm impatient and haven't had them baked.

---- They feel 'shorter' than my old Mission Lieutenants...perhaps because there is less space between the wheels on these. I've found this to have pro's and cons - pros...as I can now turn a lot sharper and cross over much easier. Cons...there feels like there is less stride...but this could be the rubbing pain kicking in, holding me back.

I'll write a detailed review once I've had them baked and used them for a couple of months, including a review on the wheels, to let everyone know how much difference the baking makes and generally my thoughts on the skate. Hopefully this post hasn't broken any rules?

There is very little info/threads on this skate on the web - I guess not many people have them yet (compared to other well established brands)

Rich

Cheers Frank

You say you had yours punched out. I dont think any shops do that here in the UK (We have baking ovens but that's it). What do they do exactly?

Is it something I can do myself, as the base of the skate feels a bit 'curved' (like my foot isn't flat like in my Missions). Is this what punching removes?

Cheers,

Rich

Had my second run on these tonight

I gotta be honest - I'm struggling to get on with them.

I feel like I'm treading everywhere rather than skating, like i've lost my smooth stride. Its still only my second run, but I played terribly tonight because I'm finding it hard to skate well...almost feels like I'm having to put twice as much effort in to get anywhere as fast as I was before. Not sure on the ankle insert padded bits yet either, but again, time will tell.

Watch this space - cant write these off until I've properly broken them in - which I think is where the problem lies. And I've not been well lately so I'm not at my peak as wel.

Anyone else experience this when breaking them in?

I have been using the current version for a month or so now, so i will also update in this thread.

Rich (my name also btw),

My first time in the revisions was not fun. After messing around in warm ups they felt great. As soon as the game started, i made one hard cut, and the ankle pads tore my skin apart. I had one inch diameter blisters on the insides of both of my ankles that tore open right away. Needless to say my game was a little off because of the pain.

However, a few games later they feel great. No real pain to complain of, and i feel i can skate faster in these than my old hi-lo set up. Also, the one thing I have noticed is that i'm able to make much quicker turns than ever before. I think the user of these skates has to make an adjustment in how he/she skates. Otherwise I think people wont like them.

So far, im impressed, although as noted above, i've had to adjust the way i skate in order to make these work for me.

What a turnaround...

I gave it a couple of days, and had another go last night.

The boots feels like a comfy trainer now...no pain, no rubbing and just feels natural like my Missions did. Very happy with the boot now. It would have been very easy for me to get rid of these after the initial problems but i'm glad I didn't.

I'm still not convinced that these wheels provide better grip than Rink Rat Hornets, BUT...it does look like they'll last a lot longer. Hornets just chunk out on me...an no I'm not a skinny guy!

I could be tempted to try hornets on the middle two wheels maybe

Bit of an update - these things have gotten better and better each time I use them.

I'm now back up to my normal speed, and possibly a touch faster too.

They feel 'natural' now, like I dont even think about them being on my feet anymore.

So, if anyone is looking to get them, just make sure you bake them and be prepared for a few weeks of break in - but after that, perfect.

Also - weight wise, these 'feel' lighter than my old Mission LTs.

bottom line do these out perform the hilo, sprung or tour chassis?

Have only tried the Hi-Lo chassis and these. I don't notice a lot of difference just now, but I'm still working these in. Will let you know what I think in a month or so
