Making a 90 flex

Recommended Posts

Depends on the wood plug. It could end up 80, 85 or 90 flex

Are you refering to the length of the plug that I'd be inserting? I only cut usually a half inch of a standard stick. but to go to say a 90 it might be an inch or too cut off, with about and inch of extension.

No. Wood is very inconsistent and the stiffness of the plug will vary quite significantly from one to the next.

An inch or two of wood extension is not going to be flexing.

Most people say the same about an inch or two of composite materials, yet it makes a difference. Also remember that a couple inches of the plug goes into the shaft, so an inch or two is really more like four or five. Joe from Oggie has done a bunch of tests on wood plugs with his force gauge. This isn't theoretical, it is based on what he has told me.

So what would you recommend to make an 85 flex stay a 90 after i cut and extend it?

Cut it 3-4 inches shorter than you need it, then re-lengthen to proper length with a wood plug. Will it flex? Yes, but not enough to notice and it is your best option. You're only looking to "change" the flex a very small increment anyway.

I would start with a 100 and add an oggie grip
