Rangers 2010-2011

Yeah this time off will help the entire team. That + the All-Star break will also help kill off some of Callahan's time on the IR.

What are everybody's thoughts on Zuccarello? I thought he played an ok first game. You can see he is still adjusting to the smaller rink a bit but a good debut I thought.

I thought he was a lot better than I expected him to be, considering adjustment issues, size, speed, etc.

I saw no problems with him adjusting to rink size, but he does have a foot speed problem, which I think he'll need to work on over the summer. If he can work that out, he has a very nice future in my opinion.

I agree on the foot speed he did look a little slow. I think the speed difference was probably more to do with the speed at the NHL level compared with AHL more than him being slow. Nothing too bad though. I thought he back checked well. I think he has the potential to be a good 2nd line maybe 1st line player. Most importantly he adds some skill to the team. Id like to see him against the Islanders on Monday.

I believe the consensus is that he will play Monday. They sent him down to play tomorrow in Hartford so he gets as much time as possible, but I hope the snow doesn't mess things up.

In reference to the foot speed thing, I meant more that he has a problem of getting going, his feet just aren't quick enough. It's something that Artem suffered his first year up, and it doesn't mean their slow, it just means that they don't have that first step burst of speed abilities that players around them do. In his case, I think if he gets into a good regiment, similar to Arty or Boyle's from over the summer, he'll be fine.

According to the Rangers Twitter feed Zuccarello will be called after his game tonight and will play vs Islanders tomorrow. Also Gabby will most likely play. Lets hope Gabby can find some form.

Yep.

It was a smart move on the part of the Rangers. Keep this kids adrenaline going and amped up to play a big divisional game.

I can't wait to see the game vs the Islanders tommorrow. I'll be a fixture in front of the TV. If this game goes to shootouts, I'd like to see a different lineup than last time though. My picks: Christiansen, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Gaborik...

I don't think Gaborik likes the shootout too much. I don't really understand why because he has one the best wrist/snap shots in the game. But so did Jagr and he didn't seem to have too much success with it either. Although the Islanders should be perfect for Gabby to get some confidence going. They haven't got the best or the fastest defense. And hopefully Zuccarello can have another good game and stay up with the Rangers.

Frolov needs to shoot with more "power", if you know what I mean.

Prust is really working hard.

Actually, the Rangers looked really good last night other than that they lost.

Great game in the shadows of a "meh" WC.

I agree. I sadly had to watch it in SD so it was kinda "blah" for me. It's crazy how much more enjoyable watching a game in HD is...I found myself watching thr Winter Classic a lot more than the Rangers game. Luckily, I get to see them live against the Panthers tonight :D

Gonna rock the Stepan jersey.

So who was it that said Stepan wasn't first line caliber?

Um, don't know if I said it, but I'd have to agree. You watched the game against Tampa right, where he lost a lot of faceoffs, big faceoffs, and his faceoff loss lead to the OT goal??? Career second liner. Seriously, you're going to compare him to "real" first line centers? Look around the league, elite first line centers should be getting between high 70pts+, and even 70s is in the lower end. He'll never reach that. My estimate, he's a career 20-30 goal scorer with, at most, 30-40 assists which puts him at the very low end of a top line center. Just sayin...

On the Gaby thing...I was at a game recently with my brother and we were both noticing how he doesn't open it up in the neutral zone. He'll get the puck at the blue line and skate through the neutral, seemingly allowing his linemates to catch up and/or other teams' defenders. I definitely think he's holding back. Years past, he would have flown through. Any open ice for him was exploitable ice...haven't seen it. Gotta agree with other guys on here on the hampering groin injury.

Gonna definitely agree to disagree with you on Stepan. He's not going to be a superstar player but he will develop further. Faceoffs are the ENTIRE Rangers team weakness, not just Stepan so I'm not going to hold that against him.

As for Gaborik, I watched him very closely at the game Sunday night and he just didnt have it. Like you said, no explosiveness whatsoever. He's got to be nursing an injury.

season ticket holder here. Two tough losses the past 2 games, hopefully they can put in a 60minute effort tonight and beat the leafs. Another thing, is reebok planning on selling the new 3rd jersey socks? I want a pair.

Does Ryan McDonagh do anything wrong? kid gets the call and and posts nothing but solid play and + rating every night. He will be a star.

I really wish McDonaugh hadn't been part of the Gomez trade.

And...TSN Predictor tonight, I had the NYR to beat the Leafs....check.

I also had Dubinsky to outscore Grabovski...then I saw that Duby is hurt....so I switch the pick. I really figured the Leafs would get one, and bets on the hottest Leafs scorer being in on it. Crap!

I'm just praying that Sather lets them try and ride this out until Cally gets back and doesn't go off and trade all the youth in waiting to sustain this season. And I'm thinking more and more that Step will be a number one center. I'd still be all for signing Brad Richards in the off season, assuming hes not asking for 7 a year, after all of the current team guys that will get offers are resigned, but I think step is going to contend for the number one job. As far as faceoffs, yeah the whole team struggles, a lot of that has to do with strength and technique, which Stepan will improve on both departments as he gets more experience. 2, 3, 4 years: this team is scary good.

another great win tonight. Came back twice and won it in the shootout. Great play by Boyle on the tying goal and Zuccarello has just been deadly in the shootouts. Onto Washington now.

Girardi and Prust out....

Del Zotto + Grachev recalled. Weise sent down.

This team's luck with injuries is terrible. Im willing to bet the Rangers have the most total man games lost in the NHL by a long shot.
