Pro stock hockey gear not really pro stock?

Recommended Posts

During the off-season, i leave MSH and post a lot on tennis forums. When discussing pro stock racquets, i was mentioning how easily available and cheap pro-stock hockey gear is compared to tennis. Pro stock racquets are often different from retail (paint jobs), are very hard to find and are selling for ridiculous prices (400-500$ range). I gave some websites as examples like Hockey Monkey and a new site i found but didn't know, prostockhockeygear.com. Here is a reply i received:

Hidious,

If you are buying from a place like that its not real "pro-stock" oftentimes its a pro's name on it with a clone curve...and cheaper because there is no warranty...

granted you can get overruns at team sales and places like Perani's..however most of the time if you are going to look for a Styles curve or specific stock # you will pay just like you do for an H22/TGK 2xx. etc...and need to 'scour the bay

all the major retailers make their own version of pro-stock that is in essence just an SMU for them in special colors or with a slight change in materials ..it would be like if TW created a special run of pro-stock CB 2.3's that had a closed AirMax unit a la Rafa,

Just wanted to make sure you aren't overspending for that stuff!!

Any truth to that? I've always thought pro-stock gear was really gear a pro could have used but didn't like, am i too naive? Btw, the part about H22 and TGK is a reference to those rare racquets. Please discuss...
