P91a with higher lie

Recommended Posts

So I just started using the P91a curve and I really like the curve itself, however, I'm finding that the lie is just too low for me. When looking at the tape, its all wearing from the mid part of the blade to the toe and I notice I'm losing more pucks underneath the heal of than I used to.

Reading on Bauers site, it says the P91 is higher than the 91a, however, they are both listed as 6 lies.

So has anyone tried both the 91 and 91a and can tell me of any real difference in them? Also, how do these compare to the P106?

Lastly, does anyone else make a 91a style of curve that has a higher lie that might be more to my liking?

Thanks.

as far as i can tell the p91 does not have a higher lie, rather it has more curve depth (5/8" as opposed to 1/2"). I can't say for certain but the p91 might be a bit more open and a bit more heel.I can best compare it to the old frolov curve.

You could try adding a little length to the stick?

Oops, forgot to address that. I'm already using a longer stick than I like to use, so I do not want to go longer.

Is that from personal use or inspection? I just ask cause on Bauers page it describes the 91a as "a lower lie than the P91 for players who keep pucks away from their bodies."

That makes it sound like the P91 in all other respects, so that is why I'm hoping for anyone that has actual experience with the curves to help me figure it out.

Thanks.

How tall is your stick? Depending on where you play the puck, 5.5 should be good down to about your collarbone.

I use the p91a in my rotation, and I've seen the p91 blade in person but havn't used it. so no I can't say with absolute certainty, but I can go back to my LHS and check out the blades again. They didn't return their bauerID blades.

Cool. If you have the chance and are at the LHS already, I would be interested in a comparison.

Almack, thanks for that suggestion. I think that I do have access to some CCMs with that curve so I can compare it directly. Switching is not an issue, I like my One95s, but I'm not too picky (or really hard on) about the stick itself like I am with the curve. I'll look into it.

Was also wondering how the Drury compares in terms of lie as well.

comparing a one95 p91a blade with a drury s19 blade both in r8 shafts, the p91a has a smidgen more depth and a smidgen less open. almost insignificant differences and most people won't notice at all, heck I can't even say without cerntainty my eyes aren't playing tricks on me because the s19 is a thinner blade. The lie's are exactly the same.

edit: the p91a has quite a bit more depth than the drury.

Thats like saying the saying the Sakic is identical to P92 in every aspect. That's the consensus but it's not always true.

Well I have both and have had them for a while (Easton,Bauer). I don't see any difference. They both shoot the same (wonderfully) and have the same lie.

Thanks for the input. I will continue to give it a few more skates and see what happens.

I got a blade for a shaft I had around to give the curve a try, once I find I like it (or dont) or find a similar curve with more lie (if I end up thinking that is what I need), I'll end up buying an OPS with it and make the shaft my backup.

I'll look at the CCM and hope to compare the 'a' to the 91 at some point and see if Bauer's description is accurate.

Appreciate everyone's time.

i also have both and side by side the p91a bends in more, noticeably more.
