Different size skate holders ?!?!

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering how everyone else would approach this. I recently replaced the steel in my CCM V08's and found out at the time that I have two different size holders on my skates, 280 on the left boot and 271 on the right boot. I believe the 271 is the correct size for the CCM Pro-E holder on my boots but wanted to see if someone here can confirm?

I honestly didn't know until they replaced my steel but I never did feel quite right on these skates and now I'm starting to think I understand why not lol. Would you guys get the holder replaced with the right size or just let it be until you needed new skates? I'm hoping i can get CCM or the shop to give me the right size holder and blade for it but not sure how successful that complaint will be.

I would get a matching set of holders, especially if you have never felt settled in this pair of skates. One of your skates has longer steel than the other, and I'd imagine you would notice marked on-ice improvements once you have a correct pair of holders and steel. If you bought the skates new from the shop, they should be able to arrange it so you will get the proper holder, and hopefully at no cost to you. I don't think CCM would have any issue eventually eating the cost of another holder in this situation, it is a pretty glaring and stupid mistake if the skates were shipped in this state.

contact ccm, explain the situation.

considering the embarassing nature of this, i think they'd be more likely to send you their new skates instead of replacing these. never heard that happen, that's actually pretty funny (sorry). what doesn't make any since to me is, why wouldn't a sharpener notice this? there isn't much difference between the two, but imo if anyone has been sharpening skates for any amount of time (hell even a couple weeks) I think they'd notice this.

Did you double-check to make sure the boots are actually the same size? Is it possible one is a D width and the one with the larger holder is an EE?

Yeah boots are both the same size and width, good news is the shop is going to fix it. Should include the holder and correct size step steel blade for it. Something new for me to verify when I buy skates in the future now.
