Blisters from gloves?

Recommended Posts

I did a search, but all I could turn up was blisters from skates.

Anyway, my issue is that my bottom hand gets ugly blisters (right along the top of the palm, just below my fingers) from shooting. (I practice shooting off-ice every day). I've tried taking a day (or several) off and letting it heal (easier said than done) but I go back to shooting, and the cycle continues. So I am wondering, what's a good way to deal with this? Bandaging works for a few shots but then the bandage pulls off or gets twisted up. Should I add padding to the glove? Get rid of the palm entirely? (my gloves have very thick palms, I think they might be dinosaur hide). Revise my shooting technique? Give up and force myself to let my hand heal? ...see a doctor before I give myself flesh-eating disease? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Maybe look into a glove that fits a little snugger to your hand so you won't have palm material moving and rubbing while you shoot. I've had a pea sized callous right below the middle finger on my bottom hand from shooting for over a decade, but never blisters.

I've gotten a rash from gloves but never blisters. Not sure where the blister is located on your hand, but a small square of gauze wrapped up with medical tape might work until it heals. I don't have much other advice other than the obvious of making sure the gloves fit properly.

Thanks all. The blister is right near the base of my finger, so pretty awkward to tape, but I can try. I'll also see about loosening up my grip.

While I can't afford new gloves right now (or even used ones, sadly) - any suggestions for gloves that have a narrower fit? My current ones are Bauer Vapor V's, which seemed pretty snug-fitting for the most part.
