Bauer TotalONE vs CCM U+CL

Recommended Posts

Hello I was thinking of buying a new pair of skates and with all these marketing gimmicks these days I get confused. I hear the consensus is the Bauer TotalOne skate is a better skate then the CCM u+CL but is it so much better that its worth the extra $150 for? I was also looking into the new GRAF G35 v2010 and how would they stack up against these other 2 skates?

Try them on and which ever fits the best is the better skate

are you talking about custom fit skates? because of all three of the retail skates you mention, i can only wear one since they fit differently.

yes im talking retail skates but like which is the lightest? most durable? any other things that might give the skate an edge over their competitors? ie. is the reflex tongue on the bauer total one purely a gimmick or does it actually work?

Only way to know which one is best for you is to try them on. Sure some skates are going to be lighter, more durable, etc etc, but if that skate doesn't fit your foot, then what's the point, it'll just be money wasted. Best advice you'll get is to go to your LHS and try on different skates and see what fits, then choose from there.

Based on your input it's a very easy answer - none of them and all of them, because you don’t know what you want, so how can we answer your question when you start your topic by comparing two pairs and then throw in everything else into the mix. My psychological profile tells me that what ever you chose will be most likely an impulse buy since I don’t get that feel that you need a new pair desperately more of a new purchase because you can afford it. Nothing wrong with that, impulse buying is part of our modern culture, so no mater what pair you buy you will have second thoughts about your choice unless you can afford all 4 mentioned.

As for fit, one person will tell you that certain model is too wide, to another person it will be too narrow, there are some inputs on fit which is generalized on some level but it’s not an input which should be taken heavily into your consideration.

Cheers

WOW - this is very well put Rubo, couldn't have said it better myself!

just a quick thing to add: for an impulse buyer it's the emotional satisfaction that is probably the most important aspect of the purchase since everything else WILL be second guessed just like you said.

so if in doubt (which is obviously the case here) the safest route is to buy whichever skate you like the most, otherwise an utmost disappointment is almost certainly guaranteed :)

Yea I will probably just go with whatever I seem to like more in the store its just that I get frustrated when buying hockey gear because there are so many gimmicks its unbelievable and I have no way to test them. Like when you buy a car you can check its MPG, Horsepower, etc. But with skates and sticks i'm completely lost.

No matter how cool Yao Ming thinks a Smart car is or how much he believes the marketing he won't buy it because.... HE DOESN'T FIT IN IT. So moral of the story is buy what fits.

For sure listen to what these guys are saying. Fit is by FAR the most important aspect of any skate, not it's weight etc etc. Negative space in a skate will negate any performance advantages it has and will just end in pain.

I don't think he needs to hear it from 30 different guys that the skates fits differently, pretty sure the message got through the first time.. Just answer his question instead if you know the answer.

P

He hasn't provided enough (any) details for anyone to give him an answer.

Edit: this is heading for lock town anyway

As far as the TO, no I dont think the tongue is a gimmick. It works for me. The boot is hella light and I feel like it gives me an extra step or two.

The TotalOne is lighter, no gimmicks there. The MLX skates are more customizable and even if their adjustable things are gimmicks the boot is still supposed to be one of the best fitting out there. The U+ CL is also comfortable, but ive never fit in ccm skates well.

If your looking for the lightest skate: TotalOne

If your looking for coolest looking skate: U+ CL (imo)

If your looking for most customizable: MLX

If your looking for best skate for you: Try as many on as possible!
