Anyone skating in this year's U+CL's?

Recommended Posts

to me it sounds like the new CLs skates fit similar to 11ks or one95s anyone confirm or deny?

I tried on Reebok 7 or 8ks i forget but they do not fit at all similar imo. I think one95 does

My brother has been using these skates for about two months now and he loves them. He decided to switch to these out of his X60's, and found them a lot similar once they were heat molded and broken in. There also durable, we play on the same team about 6 times a week and besides some nicks and scratches there holding up pretty good, compared to my total ones which have skate cuts and a ripping liner.I bought them at the same time as his CL's.

No, and no. I own one95's and tried on 11k's and the CL's tonight while waiting for my buddy to pick out some goalie skates. The one95 fits me great, the 11ks were pretty comfy too, but the CL's...ouch! Way too tight in the middle of my foot around the arch area. Like a previous poster said, it's like my foot didn't touch the footbed because it was so narrow in the arch area. Cool looking skates, but I'd never be able to wear them.

What width did you try?

Has anyone skated in these and XXXX's? I'm looking at getting some new wheels in the foreseeable future, and I think I've got my mind set on the X:60 or the U+CL. If anyone has skated in the XXXX's and the U+CL/X:60 some advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I loved the XXXX's and would get another pair if I could find them.

How are things holding up with both of your skates? I am trying to decide between the CL and one100.

can anyone comment on the durability. will these skates last 3 seasons with use 3 times a week

Over B level.. NO WAY. Maybe two seasons if you are lucky.

3 years 3 times a week? Yes, they will. Will they stay pretty? No, but stiffness will still be there. Playing that frequently most likely would need replaced after five years.

Everyone I know that has those skates, they play A leagues and a bunch of Juniors, are already complaining about them breaking down. A leaguers play 3 times a week.

What are some of the complaints? I heard the liners hold up better than Bauer

Depends Ofcourse how hard you're on your skates... people who I've sold to got them before Christmas, they need new skates after next year. So 1.5 seasons. But they play six-seven times a week not 3. There's a huge skill difference between b and a league, too. A league I would agree yes after two years. B league? Last closer to 5 personally. C and d league? 7 probably playing that frequently.

I been skating on a pair of U+CL's since last fall so I thought I'd throw in my $0.02. The moldability of the boot is awesome and can conform to a lot of 'foot issues'. The only issue it wouldn't mold around was my ridiculously large inner ankle bones. Got them punched out after a bunch of sessions and all was OK. (I have very weird feet/ankles and getting skates to fit perfect is nearly impossible. I always have to make a compromise somewhere). As said before, the CL's are tremendously stiff and probably too stiff for me since I only play 1 and sometimes 2 times per week and I'm not the strongest skater in the world either. I usually like a stiff boot because I'm 220lbs and like the added support. If you like very stiff boots and these fit your feet then get' em...you'll love 'em.

There's not a lot of arch support in them which is fine for me, I have very low arches. Those with high arches may need a footbed upgrade, like Superfeet, to be happy in them. I am using the footbed that came with the CL's and they'v been fine for me. I don't get any hotspots whatsoever and the skates are very comfortable but still very responsive. CCM nailed the whole zero negative space thing as my foot really does feel like one with the skate.

Here's my only problem with the skate, for me anyways. As I said before, I'm not a strong enough skater or skate enough times per week to get the benefit of a boot this stiff. I probably would have been better off with the U+12's, which ironically, I originally had purchased. The 12's had a defective boot and had to be sent back and my size was on backorder for over 2 months. I didn't want to wait that long so I sprung for the upgraded CL's in my size. Yep, that was an expensive mistake for me.

I also have a pair of Bauer Vapor X50's that I skated in last year so here's my feedback on fit the differences (I wear an 8.5D in both skates). I found the CL to be slightly wider in the forefoot and to have slightly more volume than the X50. Heel width feels pretty similar to me and the heel lock is very good in both skates. The Bauer 8.5D is slightly shorter than the CCM 8.5D, probably by 1/4 of a size...maybe less. My toes just feather the toe caps on the CLs while they are just a tad scrunched up in the Vapors. I'm betting that some people may also be able to fit both skates very well. My foot was wide enough to fit the forefoot of the CL but not too wide so it still fit into the Vapors without issue. The Vapors do feel tighter in that part of the boot, but it's not a problem for me at all.

Overall I really think that CCM has come a long way with the new U+ CLs and U+ 12s. They still look great, even after 20-30 skates so they hold up very well. If you are worried about durability...don't. Nothing to worry about with the CL's. Even though they are light, they are tanks!

Finally, I will add that I have since moved on and picked up a pair of Easton EQ50's (which I love by the way). They are plenty stiff for me while not being too stiff like my CL's are. The U+12s would have been an option but the shop didn't have my size...

Hope this helps those considering the U+ CL's.

Thanks JP.

Great post. I have high arches and found them to be much better than many other skates. The Flexlite had some wheat of an arch too but way to much width and poor moldability.

I have worn a 6E in Vector Pro, V10, U+, U+ Reloaded and now the U+CL and I find the CL's fit about a 1/4 of a size smaller.
