One 80 Skate durability

Recommended Posts

Hey all~

I play beer league hockey 2-3 times a week, plus the occasional tourney. My current skate a pair of 1.5 year old CCM U+ 09s are falling apart.

Not wanting to get burned again by CCM I tried the One80s on at my LHS last week and they felt great. Before I buy I was hoping for some feedback on how the One80s hold up.

Thanks

I would have to mention your weight will come into play in the durability equation. I'm quite a bit heavier than my old high-school hockey days, and skating at a similar frequency to what you have stated, I have managed to break down the older similar level one75's in just under a year. Pretty much everything is still usable with the skate, but the boot is definitely getting a bit too flexible for my liking.

Paying just over $200 when everyone was blowing them out, versus shelling out for the current top of the line I could've bought 3+ pairs for the same price. Would a top of the line skate have lasted 3 times as long? I doubt it, and therefore found them to be a good bang for the buck purchase.

the other big factor is drying out and taking care of equipment. Some guys have ratty, ripped up and repulsive equipment and leave it in their hockey bags and don't even air dry it. They complain of holes in gloves, pants that fall apart, straps that become too loose and skates that break down too quick.

i'm 140lbs (on a good day) and skate about 4 times a week. I take pretty good care of my one80s, hang em up side down with insoles out.

i bought them the day they came out back in july and the right boot is broken down pretty soft, but the left boot is in great shape. my right ankle is smaller and messed up so i lean on the walls of the boot (inside and outside) alot more than i do with my left foot. at this point, i'm waiting for the left boot to break down to what the right boot is at now before i replace them, to give you an idea of where they're at.

i imagine they'll last me til the middle or end of the summer.

Hmmm... Thanks all that's some good info.

Re: weight yeah I agree @ 230 lbs definitely a bit heavier than in HS. I guess I just have to get adjusted

to the idea that I can only get 2 seasons out of a pair of skates.

Agree. I have sat next to that guy in the locker room before - not so nice. For me if I spend that much money on it

I'm going to take care of it. I do wipe down my skates and take out the insoles and air every thing out with a fan - not

sure what else I could do to make those CCM last longer.

I've had my One80s since the end of October and use them 2-3x a week. Like everyone has said, after playing insoles come out and let dry. I think these are the best skates I've ever owned. For me they are great, I have a narrow heel and the fit is spot on, I also put superfeet in them. A few scrapes and slashes to them but they are only cosmetic and the skate itself is holding up great. If they fit you and you have the $, I'd say go for it...no regrets!

The One 80's are a good and durable solid skate. I don't think you'll go wrong getting them.

Had my One 80s for two weeks now, skated in 'em five times. Amazing, just amazing. No break in time for me... so comfy straight out of the box. Lovely to skate in. Time will tell as far as durability issues are concerned.
