pronounced heel

Recommended Posts

if you have a pronounced heel, how important is it to find a skate that is meant for a pronounced heel? i.e. is it most important to get a skate with proper heel width, forefoot width and volume; or is the heel shape just as important? i am really having a hard time finding a great fitting skate.

I'd say it's extremely important, I wouldn't place any of those factors ahead of one another as they are all key aspects to how a skate fits.

It is skinnier and farther back. Your ankle bulges slightly below your tendon. I love the Bauer vapor line, and I have a slightly pronounced heel. The Reebok pump helps form around your ankle.

what is a pronounced heel? Is it skinnier or is it wider/fatter?

imagine sort of a ball attached to the end of your heel, it protrudes outward from the back of your ankle

I have a moderately pronounced heel and pretty bad bone spurs on top of that. Graf G35's fit like a dream.

i tried 735/g35 in a narrow size and they were slightly too wide at the forefoot. g3/703 in narrow fit me perfect at the forefoot but the heel is too narrow. the reason i posted is because i was wondering if the g5/705 in a narrow would fit me nice, except for the fact that i have a pronounced heel. the g5/705 forefoot is supposedly slightly smaller than 735/g35. i'm not sure if the relatively straight heel of the 705 would lock my heel though.

too bad no one around here carries graf anymore.

I've had both the 705 and G5 and the G5 definitely seems to have less of a straight backstay (some where between straight/pronounced) than the 705. The G5 may work, but 705 probably would not.

Willy:

If you plan to spend the money on a high end boot...save up the extra $100 and go custom. When you have frankenfeet...the best bet is to get the right fit...so you can choose essentially any skate you want or like.

I'm just a beer league player but I play a lot. I'm going to call some of the lhs's around here to see if I can order custom even though I'm a nobody. (I was under the impression that only competitive players could get custom fit based on the team they play for)
