How to go about cutting a stick down?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I'm new to the forums, and somewhat new to becoming educated on gear, as well.

Anyways, I've been using the Reebok P30 but have noticed that Reebok stopped making them. After checking out some sizing-charts online, hitting up my local hockey shop, and trying some sticks of the people I play with, I ended up snagging an Easton EQ30 Iginla. To me, it has a very similar feel - the only issue is, it's longer than what I'm used to.

I noticed that on the stick, towards the top of the shaft, they have inch-marks. I'm assuming there is a way to cut the stick down, without ruining it, to fit to your preference.

Is that the case? If so, would the shop I just bought it from be able to cut it down? Would there be a cost?

Any help would be appreciated. I apologize if this was posted in the wrong forum!

Thanks!

- Derek

you dont need to waste your money at your lhs to have them cut it down. just pop the end plug out, put it lightly in a vice with something wrapped around it to protect it, use a saw to cut it down. obviously be as straight as you can.

hacksaw, chopsaw, the shop should cut it no cost

make sure you know how short you want it

you can always cut more off but adding not so much (extensions are crappy)

Awesome. Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't have tools - so I'll hit up my local-shop tomorrow and give them a call. Hopefully they do it at no cost, considering I dropped a couple hundred bucks there today.

Thanks again!

One LHS here, if you buy a stick, they'll cut it and tape it; if you buy an extension, they'll attach it, cut it, and tape it. I've seen them charge only for the stick and the extension.

Just go back to the shop you bought the stick from, tell them you bought it there and they will cut it for you free of charge.

If not, any hacksaw would do.

A hacksaw and miter box should run you about $15 and cut down every stick you'll ever have (along with lots of other things). Straight cut every time. I mark with hockey tape and go.

can't you just take it to the shop you got the stick from and have them cut it? Just don't do what i did and try to cut the thing with a meat cleaver... oh i butchered that one and not in a good way.

I use a mitre box ($12 or so with saw) to cut my sticks and it's a piece of cake. This ensures a straight cut without much work.
