Anyone used the Bauer One35 shoulder pad?

Recommended Posts

My daughter has been happy with the RBK 10K shoulder pad but has been mentioning she needs new pads - I'm not entirely clear why. Maybe the 10k's are breaking down or maybe it's because we're coming to the end of equipment purchased by her mum *grins*. I've been looking at the one35 because they come in a woman's fit, but I'm not convinced they have enough protection.

Sidestepping the whole women's fit question, as most posters don't have experience with that *grins* - I'd really like to just address the level of protection.

Do you feel the one35 has good protection? It's never been really clear to me how much protection you lose as you go further down the line or where the difference in protection for non-checking vs checking hockey lies. Is it just the caps?

My daughter is playing intermediate/junior level hockey, although non checking it most definitely is rife with "incidental contact" and my goon, err, delicate flower plays a physical game and is forever on the bottom of pile ups and in the boards. So, no, not the same as checking but I have always felt "non contact" can be more dangerous than checking hockey precisely because people aren't expecting hits and don't know how to take them. I'd like a protective pad so I can do the "zen hockey mum" thing in the stands, one with small caps and she, of course, wants superb mobility.

The bottom line is - would the one35 offer enough protection at this level of play?

I looked on a few sites about these pads and it seems that they are nothing like the one35 , mens pads. these are designed for a woman with added protection , for women , and IW claims they are for intermeadiate to advanced level. with these being designed specifically for a woman , my GUESS is , they probably offer better protection to her , than the 10k mens would

This is would take a stab and say this is not true. My sister has them and has not complained, then again she plays pickup once a year or so, so I can't say how they are for protection as she only bought them for the adjustable chest plate. They do however look a lot closer to my 6ks than to a pair of 10ks. My best guess would be they are along the lines of the mens one 35.

Thanks for the replies guys! It seems to me they are equivalent to the mens one35 shoulder pads. I have always put her in higher end equipment and I'm wondering if the mid range equipment will be protective enough. I don't want to go down the path of woman's fit because she'll be able to judge fit herself. The women's fit products seem to fall into the mid/lower range because, frankly, that's where the market is.

Here's the issue:

1. Thinking about the men's one35 pads (because that's the pad most on this site will have used) do they offer sufficient protection?

and for those who have used higher and mid range equipment (but not necessarily the one35's)...

2. How much of a difference in protection is there between high/mid range product?

As an aside, I wonder if the women playing at a pro/high level such as the Olympics use men's standard (high-end) gear or custom...designed women's gear from the manufacturers?

I'm the manager at MN and I have a lot of girls in the One35 pad. So does Duluth, Bemidji, and Wisconsin. It offers plenty of protection for an elite player. If the player has existing issues with their shoulder, I will put them in something that has more protection for the shoulder and AC joint.
