vnderachiever 3 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 I snagged a pair of Mission Boss Blacks back last year while they were on clearance, baked them, and i'm still having a small issue:It's still tough for me to get the skate nice and tight the first time I tie them. I usually end up putting them on as tight as I can, skating for about 10 minutes, and tightening them more. Do you guys use any specific technique to break in that part of the skate? Do you tighten them when you're not skating?Just curious, as it's not a HUGE issue, just a little annoying.
playthehawkee 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 How long have you been skating in them? I skated in my commander blacks for over a year. Still have this problem every once in a while. If the boots are cold from sitting in the cold all morning it'll make them a little stiffer. I play a lot outside so the weather plays a big part for me. TLR156 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 The biggest thing I've found that helps with keeping my skates tight is to ditch the OEM laces for some good old fashion waxed cotton ones. I still have to re-tighten them if my skates are cold when I start, or when the laces are getting worn out.
pby 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Waxed laces helps a bit. You could try changing the lacing pattern.
GoBucky 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Definetly waxed laces. My CCMs came with non-wax laces and Id have to retie them every once in a while but since Ive switched to waxed laces I havent had that issue.
vnderachiever 3 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for the replies, I always use waxed laces :-DI was talking to the manager at my LHS yesterday and he recommended putting my skates in the passenger seat of my car w/ the heat on while i'm on my way to the rink to keep them warm.He also mentioned the hand dryers in the bathrooms to warm em up a bit. I'll give that a shot this weekend.
