TUUK LS2 question

Recommended Posts

First things first... I apologise in advance if this question has been asked and answered before. Couldn't really pick it out within the search and I'm short on time.

I'm about to take a dive here and buy a pair of X60s online, since the price has dropped a bit now. Before anyone says "buy from your LHS", I would but travelling out of town to a shop that is poorly organised, especially with opening hours (too many times I've turned up and they closed early...), and forking over £560 when I can get the same skates for just over half price seems more reasonable. And put it simply, they overcharge (£4 for a roll of tape... £4!!)

Now here's the kicker..

Last pair of skates that I had with LS2 holder & steel was my pair of Nike Flexlite 10s from 2006/2007. I remember back then, my skates would make a clicking noise and that was due to the hardware being loose, common for fresh LS2s. My question is if this has changed (ie. hardware is tightened after purchase) or would I need to buy a LS2 travel service kit?

I play for a college team and over half of my team uses a skate with the LS2 steel and holder. Our season just ended and I didn't see anyone having any sort of problem with their runners or holders. I have vapor xxxx's and many guys on the team have X60s and all them held up great. I'm not sure if they changed anything but the new ones seem to work perfect with little or no maintinance. Hope this helps.

It would be a good idea to check the tightness after the first skate or 2.

But you don't need any fancy TUUK service kit. Just get an 8mm or 5/16" nut driver at a hardware store for a small fraction of the cost. Or use a ratchet with an extension and a 5/16" or 8mm box. Just be carefull not to overtighten the nut.

I think the older allen head style were more prone for "clicking", I havn't heard the newer style having much of a problem. You can easily switch the older hardware for the newer 8mm nut style.
