Warped LS2 Blade?

Recommended Posts

I got a pair of the higher end Bauers with the LS2 blades and when picking them up from the LHS after contouring, I noticed a warp in the blade.

I don't think they had anything to do with that, and I probably didn't even look at them when I pulled them out of the box since they don't come sharpened anyway.

I'm fairly do it yourself, and since they didn't have a "blade straightener", I just viced them up and gave them some gentle bends until I could put the straight edge on the side of the blades and I had knocked a majority of the warp area out. I'm assuming that's the best it will get for now but will the blade retain it's shape over time or is that warp just going to keep coming back?

Anyone got a "professional" way of going about this correctly?

Try a google advanced search limited to just this site for warped bauer blades. I seem to recall there being a number of skates where the holders were mounted incorrectly, which causes a bend in the steel. There was a bunch of info on the issue a couple months back.

You can do a Google Search from MSH - on the "kickplate" above this topic, you will see the search box. Where it says "This Topic," you can click that and choose Google Site Search.

That all being said, if you have a bend, it is most likely from a bad mount. That can be corrected in a store if the person has a torque bar for mounting skates.

I had a pair of Bauer One100s with an incorrectly mounted holder which caused a warped runner. The retailer took care of it and replaced the skates even after baking, sharpening, and 1 skate. Didn't even think to look for this when I first got them but I definitely will in the future.

I am glad I read this, I have my One 100s arriving tomorrow, and will now check the blade just to be sure. I doubt if it is common problem though, Bauer would not sell so many skates if this were always happening. Although, manufacturing of anything will have some errors. I bought a new Honda Accord for reliability, and have had to have the dealer replace the whole moter with under 40,000 miles due to bad piston rings. Human error in manufacturing, was what I was told.
