PRO Stock vs Retail .......differences?

Recommended Posts

ive got a bunch of pro stock sticks...and you can obviously tell a big difference from retail sticks...in looks and material etc...(no warranty but who cares)

but what about other type of gear...like helmets...pants...skates...(i'd never buy pro-stock skates though...obviously)

are they really different from retail? Prostock helmets have something written saying that they are not CSA pproved...and that they can't be held responsible for injuries...etc....but are they lighter? or heavier due to more protection?

and pants lol....how different can they be from your regular retail pants? and prostock gloves...ive heard that pros have them custom made to fit their particular hands pattern..lol...but beyond that....are they different in their manufacturing?

Yes and no.

Some players have certain mods to their stuff that suits them the best. Different cuffs on gloves, different padding in pants, etc...

That doesn't make it any better or worse but it's usually highly desirable because its not available on the market.

Reebok will virtually customise your pant in the NHL to your exact liking, and you will often see CCM/RBK frankenstein versions that some players use.

Just ask Luongo.

The biggest difference between Pro Stock and Retail is stiffness, I can really feel the rigidness in the skates and they double stitch and use better eyelets, etc.

I don't think I'll ever buy retail again unless it's goalie equipment, which I don't play enough to have that long lasting quality.

A lot of them are nothing more than retail curves with a different name on them, others are a custom curve on a retail shaft and some are customized for a player. If you can tell "a big difference" you're kidding yourself.

This obsession some people have with "pro stock" gear is absurd.
