Hey guys I've seen players like Dany Heatley and Eric Lindros tarring the bottom of their sticks what exactly do they use to do it and what does it do?

I'm pretty sure they use black spraypaint. They do that because in theory, it will hide the puck better. Also, some players think its distracting to look down at the puck and see a brightly colored shaft/blade.

I was watching tv and they are playing old games on RDS, today they were playing the 2nd game of the Rendez-Vous in Quebec where the NHL stars played the CCCP stars for 2 games. Kevin Dineen was spray painting the bottom of his stick black way back then. I think the games were played in 1987.

I've heard that people used to spraypaint the bottom of wood sticks to help toughen them up and keep them water-resistant.

I need my blade to be black as well. I always paint my silver Z-carbs black. The silver distracts me.

Kevin Dineen was the first guy I can remembering doing that to a stick (Titan 2020)

I started doing it as it stiffen that portion of the stick after it begun to get older.
