Flop the X60 stock tongue?

Recommended Posts

New to x60's and like them but the stock tongue is giving me some issues. I've been tucking it under my shin-guards but it feels like a lot of baggage under there that I could do without. Am coming from a Graf Supra model that had that short non-felt tongue that ended just after the top eyelet so I'm not used to having anything protruding into my pads.

I used to flop before my Grafs, and though it never occurred to me that X60 tongue was floppable I tried to do so mid-scrimmage tonight. It felt great, until they started curling back up.

My question: if I tape the X60 tongue down for days when I'm not using it, will it stay down? Is it worth trying?

I'm looking into ordering some long felt tongues to put into my X60's, but figured I'd give this a shot first.

By the way regarding ordering felt tongues, I haven't found any Bauer ones available. I'll ask my LSH if they can order me some from Bauer, but if not, I have found Eastons, RBK and Graf. Any ideas on which to pursue to flop for an X60 size 9D?

The white felt RBK tongue flops beautifully. I usually just sit my skates upside down with the tongue flopped when I'm not playing, that helps with getting a good flop going. Tape would have the same effect.

Lace them up all the way, tie them then flop the tongue down and wrap it with clear tape going underneath the boot. Leave it for 3-4 days and you should be good to go.

I don't use the top eyelets on my X-60s and the tongues developed a natural "flop" or whatever you call it over time.

Not the best for the lacebite protectors built into the tongue though.
