Reebok 1k vs Bauer RX:05

Recommended Posts

The Bauer's come with outdoor wheels. Not sure about the Reeboks.

I used the 05's for about a year, outdoors, and they held up great. I was a beginner so I fell a lot and they got scraped up on smooth concrete, but have held up well. You can barely tell there are scratches and puck marks. The one thing I noticed is that the boot started to break down (in terms of stiffness) about 8 or 9 months in but that could be because I had them baked and they were slightly too big for my feet.

I use the 05's for outdoor play and mine have lasted over 12 months. They come with outdoor wheels which is nice but you'll have to replace them fairly quickly. They are a pretty soft boot, but since I don't weigh that much it isn't a big deal. Protection is meh, you shouldn't break an ankle but you will sure as hell feel it if you take a puck to the side. Overall I'm pretty happy with them.

They seem to run a bit big compared to the ice boot, must have something to do with the R width.

Aggreed, the RX:05's are really just a "price-point" skate, they are fairly flimsy... if you weigh more then 150lbs, you will break them down in no time. I would recommend going up to the RX:15's or 20's. The 20's come with indoor wheels, so the RX:15's might be the way to go, as they come with a set of "combo" wheels, good to use indoor or outdoors. For only $20 more, I think you are getting alot more skate for little money.

Does anyone know how quickly the "combo" wheels on the RX:15s get chewed up through outdoor use (I primarily skate on a pretty smooth black topped surface)?
