Transfer paper on Polyester

Recommended Posts

I just got some cheap jerseys for a weekend tournament and I was hoping I could find a cost effective way to put a logo on. Does anyone know if I can use Transfer Paper on my Polyester jerseys, and if it will last at all or look decent.

Do you mean like iron on numbers?

I did that once for a white jersey in case I needed it for games. It works, but you have to be very careful, a second or two too long and you'll melt a hole in the jersey like I did.

Not exactly, Transfer paper is a type of paper you can get and you put it in your printer, print off your picture on it, and iron it on to something and it puts the image on the item. Ive used it on cotton shirts but I need to know what people have to say about doing it on polyester jerseys.

Fabric paint and a stencil might be a better choice if you pick a fairly simple/one colour logo.

You only need them to last a weekend?

Well, I would PREFER something I could re-use when need be. Would fabric paint last?

I did that for a buddy's family. The jerseys I used were the old fashioned heavy polyester without mesh. The colors were a little muted, but it turned out pretty well. Stay basic on the design and use vivid colors and keep reasonable expectations and I think it will turn out fine.

I've never tried it on a sweater. I fabric-painted over a purple thumb on a pair of gloves and they turned out fine, though.

It sounds like Neal has more insight. Follow his lead and cross your fingers, I guess.

What color is the jersey?

I personally wouldn't use the inkjet transfer paper that is out there, but, we can talk about doing a sublimation transfer if you have a light colored jersey.

They are TPS Gold, so, yeah, pretty light colored

As long as you don't need white, sublimation transfers will work... Just make sure you have a heat press that will run 380-400 degrees.

Alright, Thank you
