COLLEGE HOCKEY via Verizon Fios

Recommended Posts

Looking for a subscription package that I can add onto my pre-existing Verizon Fios HD account so that I will be able to see live college hockey games. I am located in Washington, DC, but not sure that has any influence on whether or not I can pick up a package that will carry the games.

CCHA/Hockey East are my priorities, but any and all packages with games I will look into, thanks.

I have FIOS and ordered the sports package last season and just kept it. Given that it's offseason I haven't paid a ton of attention to the tv deals that have been going on lately, especially with all of these stupid teams changing conferences. TV contracts are a big topic right now for the reason mentioned above.

Based on last year, basically you want the FCS stations (here in Boston they are 300-303 or something like that) to be able to get the Minnesota, North Dakota, Denver, CC, Michigan type games out west. These are generally great games too FWIW. Really enjoyable to watch as an easterner - you won't find much clutch and grab crap like you would if you got a HE game and had a UMass or UVM or Maine trapping/clutching/grabbing the BC's and BU's and UNH's of the league. The eastern games might be a little tougher for you to get since you're in DC - not sure if HE is still with NESN or if you'd get that out there even with the sports package but you could check. My only experience is that I get it no matter what... ECAC is obviously a terrible conference so you aren't missing anything there. But HE also has a contract to have 8-10 games on CBS College Sports as well and you also get some western games on that station additionally.

Should be an interesting season.
