Thoughts on the verizon center?

Recommended Posts

Usually for my birthday i would get tickets to go see the thrashers but now that they are gone i've been looking at other teams to go see that aren't to far away. So, i was thinking about going to the Caps vs. Hurricanes game. Anyone have opinions on the Verizon center? For example the food..how comfortable the seats are, the overall experience etc. Also, what is your favorite arena? I have a dream to go see a game at every NHL arena. Crazy but totally gonna accomplish it:) thanks boys

Verizon center isn't bad. Parking is a pain in the ass, as can be driving in DC in general. Other than that though, it really isn't bad. My favorite is probably Nashville, there is a great stretch of bars on Broadway and the arena is similar to most of the other new buildings in the league.

Well glad to here Nashville is awesome because im getting to go there too!:D I've also hear that the Verizon Center can be very cramped. Is this true? I understand its a sporting event, but its really my mom i'm worried about she can get a bit sketchy when shes in a cramped space..

Every professional sports arena is a cramped space. You shouldn't take her if she has confinement issues.

I do not know about the Verizon center, but out of all the arenas I have been to(fairly limited). I must say Nashville felt really open and comfortable to me. I did not feel like the world was stacked on top of me like i do in San Jose and Tampa.

Verizon is a nice place. Best bet is priceline a hotel within walking distance if you are travelling as others said parking is bad.

Consider Consol in Pittsburgh...really nice atmosphere

With respect to your mother and space, if money is not an issue, try to get tickets where you have access to the Acela club.

It's the open air bar/restaraunt on one the ends from which you can still view the game. You can grab a table at the edge and eat from the buffet and still look down and catch the action.

I might look into this, how much more is it to sit there than any other seats?

Unless you are a local fan and blind to everything else, Pittsburgh is the worst city to see a sporting event in my experience. Obviously, I can only speak for the dozen or so cities where I've seen games. Philly fans are nowhere near as bad, despite their reputation.

Chadd i have to disagree with you on the phily part. unles you mean philly isnt bad if you are a flyers fan. Ive gone to several games there and have been threatened because i was wearing a pens jersey and when they werent playing the pens i would wear a black hoody and people "questioned" my loyalty to the flyers... Philly is a cool atmosphere because they are very intense.

And the sporting even ypu went to was it a Pirates game? Cause that i believe but the Consol Energy center is a great new arena, still needs some kinks worked out and the fair weather fans who go now because its "the thing to do" . Overall its def a place to check out

I've been to more than a dozen games at the old building in Pittsburgh. When the fair weather fans show up, it's pretty much unbearable. When they only had 8-9k people showing up, they were all hockey fans and the environment wasn't bad at all. One of the games happened to be something like Mario's third or fourth game back and some 5'5" guy with a napoleon complex was threatening to kick my ass for applauding a nice play for the away team. The ushers allowed him to scream and swear at six people before I picked him up and threatened to throw him from the upper deck to the ice. At that point, they decided it wasn't funny anymore. I've seen things like that happen at every game when the team has been even remotely successful.

I've also been to a similar number of games in philly and even wore a blackhawks jersey to one game and didn't hear that much from people. Even the Eagles - Cowboys game was more civil than most of the Pens games that I attended. I did have a few people threaten to kick my ass for beating my buddy (who was using the flyers)at a video game in the parking lot before a playoff game against Buffalo. I convinced them that my buddy was at fault so they started giving him a hard time. I'm not saying that there aren't any flaming douchebags in philly, just saying that I've had many more bad experiences in Pittsburgh.

wow..well i guess then i really shouldn't worry about going to pitt...i don't want to go to a game and be harassed the entire time. I want to go and be able to enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks a lot for the heads up Chadd!

Verizon Center is awesome. I was a season ticket holder, but stopped with my company being one of their largest sponsors...with 16 seats at the President's club. The place is amazing. I have been to most NHL arenas, and have to say that the best arena I have been to is the Staples Center. The VIP is off the hook there. Food is amazing.
