Blackburn wearing 2 blockers for the WC Alumni Game

nevermind: just Wiki'ed it, hats off to him for playing!!

From Wiki;

"on March 31, 2004, then made an attempt to return to hockey, sporting a pair of blockers rather than the conventional blocker/catcher combination, as his injury rendered him incapable of rotating his glove hand."

If you look really closely, the one on his left hand is more than just a blocker... it's a one-off custom glove with a blocker board and sidewall built around a sort of pygmy trapper instead of the typical blocker palm and finger protection. While he can't catch normally with it, because he still can't rotate the hand, he can smother the puck and catch some shots from peculiar angles, eg. picking off saucer centering passes. It's a very cool piece of work from Vaughn's pro shop.

Above all, nice to see Dan playing again. He was put between a rock and a hard place: his desire to keep playing in direct spite of his disability, and his medical compensation package. I have no doubt he knows that he chose wisely, but it must have been a painful choice to make. Vaughn's to be commended for supporting his play even after his pro career was over.

And the corresponding palm-shot:

Although they're clearly similar, I'm not positive these are identical to Blackburn's: the red/white ones came through the Canadian sledge-hockey team (Paul Rosen didn't use them, but had them for a while), and they appear to have a less developed version of the thumb and pocket Blackburn was using at the WC Legends' game, and significantly shorter fingers.

Turco appears to be wearing his Dallas pads in his Bruins debut. He also appears to have forgotten how to play the position, but thats for another thread.
