Tapered Blades...

Recommended Posts

Is it at all possible to cut a standard blade so it fits in a tapered shaft? I know the differences and all, it's just that I haven't managed to find any short-hosel blades in Britain....

Cheers :)

You can shave down standard blades to make them fit a tapered shaft. You can also make them short hosel blades buy cutting some of the hosel down and then shave a bit more of the hosel lower to make the "stop" portion of the blade lower down.

I once sanded down a beat-up standard easton graphite blade to fit a tapered shaft. I did it the old fashioned way with some coarse sandpaper, twisting the tenon back and forth. I took a while and my arm nearly fell off, but eventually it fit. The tenon did of course end up quite rouned as opposed to square. And I haven't really used it that much so who knows if it's sturdy, although it feels solid. I wouldn't tried it with a high end blade.
