New Skates

Recommended Posts

Its been a while since I have posted. I have been around since before mod squad when I was just a pee wee. Great to see the site grow since those days. Anyways I want to get some opinions on some skates. I had two pairs of kor shift 1's, sadly last winter my last pair gave out. I wish I could buy more of these, these were my favorite skates ever. I bought 3 pairs of shift 2s on eBay but I just can't get used to them. They were uncomfortable and just so hard to break in. shift 1's were the most comfortable skate I ever wore in my life. I want to know what is the most comparable skate comfort wise to the shift 1's? I heard somewhere that tour skates fit just like the Kor's? I am not sure if that is true or not, I searched for some reviews but couldn't fin anything helpful. I have heard good things as far as comfort goes with Bauer flex lite 4.0s. I also heard the supreme line in Bauer is comfy as well. I was thinking about giving some 9ks a run, but I would have to change the holder, no biggie but I will only skate with Tuuk or Pitch, and since mission is no more that only leaves me with one option. I am sure there are some kor shift 1 lovers in my same boat, what did you guys do? Really wish I could still buy those. What do you think my best option would be? I don't care about price, my main thing is comfort. I hate feeling pain when I skate, and I hate breaking skates in, that's why I like something that is good right out of the box. I don't care about weight, to me how much your skates weigh doesn't matter how fast you skate, it doesn't take anything away from your skill. The skates I am thinking is flex lites, supreme, vapor 40's, or rbk 9k. I have a wider foot so I do not like ccm's. Thanks for the help.

As Chadd mentioned, Torspo sold the Surge 221's which are basically rebranded Shift 1's (I don't know if they're still readily available). I own Shift 1's for ice and have a pair of the Surge 221's with a Sprung Chassis for roller and the fit is exactly the same. The key differences besides the branding and colour are that the tendon guards are taller and stiffer on the Surge 221's and the insoles aren't built in. The toe also seems like it'd be less prone to seperation with the Surge skates, but that could just be because I haven't used those boots on the ice and they aren't exposed to blades.

I found a pair online I just can't stand those holders. Since you use yours for roller hockey I imagine I can swap these for tuuks or slap an old pair of pitches on them? I know with the shift 1's you couldn't put other holders. Do the torspos have that cushion in the toe box like the shift 1's? Also did they bake the same as the kors? I just want to make sure before I buy these that they are as comfortable as the shift 1's.

I can't find a review on the bauer flexlite 4.0's, I wouldn't mind buying a pair of these from reading up on them people say they are the most under rated skate and very comfy, just not great protection. Can anyone comment?

The holders are riveted on. You can definitely get a LHS to put on different holders.

They don't have the cushion in the toe box, but they do bake the same as the KORs with the exception that you should remove the insoles before putting them in the oven and then put them back in before you tie up the skates. My Torspos are as comfortable as my Shift 1's.
