Bauer Skates - shorter holders?

Recommended Posts

My 7.5D 8090s have 272mm LS2 holders, and my son's 7.5D One90s have 263mm holders. However, the One90s look like they can easily accomodate 272mm holders.

I read JR Boucicaut's review of the One95 skates at Equipment Reviews -> Skates -> Nike/Bauer Supreme ONE95, it looks like the 10.5D One95s came with 288mm holders, instead of the customary 296mm holders (linking isn't working for me today).

I just got two pairs of One95 skates, and they come with 263mm holders instead of the customary 272mm holders. Recent One80s in my size also come with the smaller 263mm holders.

Does anybody have an idea or know why Bauer is going with the shorter holders? And is this across all sizes?

If I were to transplant 272mm holders onto the One95 skates (which currently have 263mm holders), do I need to fill the old holes?

TIA.

When I used to wear Bauers, I wore 7.5 as well. My current skate is a Graf Ultra G5 and wear an 8. It has 272mm holders. In short, the 8 Graf fits me the same as a 7.5 Bauer, but it has a longer holder. I have no idea why two skates of the essentially the same length would have holders of different size.

OK, thanks for the info, guys. I compared the One95 steel to the One90's, and it does flare out at the toe and heel to make it 8mm longer at the bottom.

I think I will try to find some Step ST-Steel XL for the One95s.
