Resizing/Taking in pants to make them smaller

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever had their hockey pants taken in to make them smaller? I've lost weight recently and don't relish the idea of selling at a loss a near new higher-end pants and then buying new, smaller pants.

And dang it, I just realized I typed "tanking in" in the subject -if "tanking your pants" means the same thing where you live as it does here, it won't make them smaller, just smellier.

I'm assuming you're asking about taking in the waist and unfortunately, I don't think there is going to be much you can do. Length can be more easily altered, but that doesn't seem to be your problem.

I lost a significant amount of weight a few years ago and although it was a great change for me physically, it really sucked that I couldn't use any of my old clothes, let alone hockey gear.

Not sure how much your waist size has changed, but one thing you could try is suspenders. I'm stuck in between junior large/XL and senior small in pants. Juniors are just too short and the waist in senior smalls is too big. So I just went with seniors and have been using suspenders and I love it. I can leave the waist belt as loose as I want and the pants don't go anywhere. I also feel like I have a lot more mobility that way, but that's PP. Good luck.

Do you have a rough idea on how to alter length of pants. I have a pair of Tackla 9000s i love, but they slightly short length-wise.

PS: I googled this up, but couldn't come up with an appropriate answer on MSH

I don't think you will be able to alter the waist of a pant with out compromising the integrity of the pant.

It would require cutting the protective cuff that runs around the pant and then somehow realigning the tailbone piece, not to mention somehow making it look cosmetically right in the end.

But from basic knowledge of having dress pants taken in there just may be to much work to have a hockey pant adjusted.

I've seen a couple do a quality job shortening pants, but never anyone making them longer.

Yeah I should have been more clear--by "altered" I guess I meant "shortened". I don't think there is any easy way to length pants without compromising protection. Not saying it can't be done, but its probably cost-prohibitive.

I have size 56 (40"-42") Tackla 9000s. I've gone from a 40" waist down to 37" and still dropping. I have suspenders on the pants and figure I could probably get down to 35" before they are just too big. My target weight will put me around a 33" waist size so regardless I'll end up having to replace them anyway.

You won't need to replace your pants, you'd probably need a doctor...btw a 33'' waist would ba a 50 in Tacklas !!??

seriously...how tall are yo?...as Tacklas should fit a size down, I went with a 50, 6.0ft-34 waist...they are a bit short, but I always thought pants wouldn't be that save, if they shift being too wide...

I'm 6ft even. I started @ 230lbs w/ a BMI just over 31%, down to 215lbs. Long story short, I got tired of being fat and buying bigger pants so I'm training for my 3rd marathon.
