romdj 26 Report post Posted November 16, 2011 How do you use your skates?inside?only for hockey?what are your priorities? performance? durability?
Vet88 674 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 If money is no object then all ceramic bearings are the best aroundthere is literally night and day between these and other bearings.Aircraft grade aluminium for spacers but goodness knows where you can get them these days. There isn't a lot of stress on the spacers and I haven't seen any benefit between high grade and low grade aluminium. Maybe a carbon composite or a magnesium aluminium spacer exists but I've never seen one.
romdj 26 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 ceramics are so fragile though...
Vet88 674 Report post Posted November 18, 2011 He did say money was no object and if he wants the best.....I've had my ceramics for nearly 2 years, skate every day for 2 hours or so (indoors and outdoors) and they haven't given up yet. Key to a long life is regular maintenance.
romdj 26 Report post Posted November 18, 2011 fine, I don't think he followed his thread anyways, but I'm impressed that your ceramics haven't given up yet because god knows I killed some. I would have advised Titanium bearings, Great performance and better versatility & durability. And of course swiss bearings. Ah well. What brand are your ceramic bearing? Vet88 674 Report post Posted November 19, 2011 The ones I have are grade 5 ceramic bearings. I also killed some ceramics (along with many steel bearings) before I got put onto these, I had a friend of a friend who got me some from Performance Bearing - now these are right up there with the best but if you don't have a contact then the price is "ouch" on your wallet big time. Some speed freaks I know use Acer full ceramic bearings, they rate these really highly and I may give them a shot next time (if I can stand the pain on the wallet). Not many guys I know who race in Europe use Swiss ceramics. Boca ceramics also come highly rated. As to your comment about Titaniums, I fully agree with this. I have a pack in my bag as back ups and would happily swap between the two as needed.
