AHL Winter Classic in Hamilton

So the AHL is having its own Winter Classic in Hamilton, Ontario between the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Toronto Marlies and as part of the festivities you can rent the ice on the field of Ivor Wynne Stadium for a game of shinny. How cool is that. I'm hoping to get a group going just for the experience.

That is extremely cool.

It would be especially awesome to do it on the Thursday, right after the teams practice; ice might be a little torn up, but they'll have tried to get it into really good shape beforehand. Plus, we'd get to have lunch and watch them skate, thereby making ourselves look and feel much worse by direct comparison. I love that.

You could rent the ice at last years Heritage Classic here in Calgary for the same price as City run rinks. I highly doubt it's going to cost $1500/hr, thats more than most NHL rinks cost to rent.

butthere hasnt been enuff cold weather to even maintain outdoor ice around here

Oh, it is around $1500 for the hour during prime time (ie. evening) but they have it so you pay for the rental by purchasing tickets to the game. So, 30 of the $50 tickets gets you the hour of ice as well as 30 tickets to the game. Fifteen guys a side, and each gets a ticket to the game, old timers game featuring old Leafs and Habs the night before and the post-game event as well as the hour of ice. It's a brilliant idea since it gets bums in the seats for the game and they use the ice, that really has to be in place anyway to do that.

I think the Bears and Phantoms will play on the Philly rink on 1-4-12. anyone else hear about this or was I mis-informed

Awesome , FRIDAY! I might make the trip down since a weekender. Do you think there are still tickets available. Penn State vs. Newman tickets are , but im not sure where to look for AHL tickets

If you are in the GTA there are still tons of tickets available for the Marlies/Bulldogs game which also get you a ticket to the Leafs/Habs alumni game
