Upgrading skates from CCM 652. Which one RBK 8k, Baur x4.0 or CCM U+8?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to upgrade my skates just because mine are so outdated. I am looking at these three models: RBK 8k, Baur x4.0 or CCM U+8. Can you give me your opinions on them and how they will compare to what I have?

From what I've been told, anyone transitioning from a good fitted pair of Tacks should look at both CCM and Supreme first (One60/70 in your price range). You can find various fit characteristics of the 3 skates you mentioned all over these boards.

I know that it seems common knowledge that if you fit the Tack line, you should fit in a supreme, a U+ or a reebok, but i found that my feet fit the X50 skate really well. IDK why that is because based on what I've read on this site, the Supremes should have fit better. I've worn Tacks my whole life and the Supremes did not feel well on me at all....My stick time skates are 652s and my game skates are X50's. Both seem to fit my feet similarily.

I guess what I mean to say is, go try them all on and see what feels the best. Also, I know you seem to be looking for middle of the road skates, but the U+CL's can be found in various places for at or under 300$ these days. I bought a pair for $224 shipped to Alaska. Keep your eyes open for good deals on "closeouts"...

I tried on some Bauer x40s and RBK 10ks because they didn't have any 8ks. The Bauers felt better. Reeboks seemed a little to roomy inside. I can't believe how much lighter these are than my 652s! Wow!

I'm going to try to try some CCMs on Saturday. I'm leaning toward the Bauers so far.

The Bauer X40 /4.0 is going to be a shallower and narrower boot then both the RBK and CCM. I had a pair of CCM U+10 before my one 80's and the U10's were wider for sure. My daughter wears the Vapor 4.0, and has a narrow foot, she tried on both RBK and CCM, but they were too wide. Go with what fits; don't get sucked into the Bauer Vapor vacuum. It is a great skate....... if it fits your foot.

Thank you. Actually the rbk 10k I tried on felt too wide. Too much wiggle room. How does the ccm u+ line compare to that?

I loved my U10's. I had a pair of LS2 holders put on them, but didn't have them long because the foot bed cracked. I blame the guy that put on the holders.....I went back to Bauer’s because of the convenience with the LS2 issue (I like the feel of the LS2). I broke in my U10's in one hour with little to no foot pain. The skates molded perfectly to my foot. I chose the U10 over the U12 simply because of money (I had to purchase LS2 holders and steel.)As far as comfort and break in period I give the skate 5 stars all day long. The skate actually was a little wide for me; I am used to a Bauer supreme EE. My one80’s are an EE and a more narrow that the U10. Because of this my foot locks in better and I feel I have better control with the one 80’s. On the other hand my one 80's were a SOB to break in and now fit perfectly.

I used to wear the CCM 752 (loved those skates) and tried RBK but the heel was too wide. I ended up with Bauer Flexlite 18 and then 4.0 and am quite satisfied with them.

I just went from a pair of CCM652 Tacks with white Tuuk blades to a pair of narrow Graf G3s with Tuuk blades. Love em. Got them baked, of course.

Whatever pair you go with, try them all on to see what fits you best.

I haven't looked into Grafs because I don't know of anybody around here that sells them. I've thought about buying skates online, hence the U+12 question, but I think buying them from a local place would be better in case I have any trouble. All we have where I live is Perani's. Not that that is bad.

yea. its worth an hr to get the right skate. I mean , an hr is "local" . I play beer leage , have a 15 yr old HS player , a 12 yr old peewee , and a 6 yr old mite , and our rink is 40 min. away. Dont be "lazy" in your skate shopping. If you have to drive 2 or 3 hrs to find the right boot , it will be well worth it! good luck!

Just an update. After trying on Reeboks, CCM U+ and Bauer Vapors I ended up buying Bauer Vapor X5.0's. They feel great. I have only skated on them a little, but they are very comfortable. I did not get them baked because they feel good and I was afraid to mess that up. I put my superfeet foot beds in them which fit perfectly. Only skated on them for a couple of minutes so far, but I felt better on them than I thought I would. Didn't fall on my butt. I did notice they must be pitched a little differently than my old skates because I felt muscles working a little differently. I will play in them for the first time tomorrow night, God willing.
