taking care of your skates

Recommended Posts

I always take the footbeds out when drying. I also let my skates air dry or beside a fan at most, never with heat.

Wipe them down really well. Unlace at least the top two eyelets to get some air in there and take the insoles out as soon as you take them off. Go home and wipe them off again (there might be some ice stuck in the holder somewhere). If you can, hang them upside down (blades facing up) on a hook or something of that sort. Just think to keep them as dry as possible. If you're worried more about the boot while playing then you might want to look into trying some protect-toe. Always keep blade protectors on the blades when you're not wearing them too.

That'd be correct if it's a fan with a heating unit. If it just shovels air, it shouldn't do no harm.

i used dry out my skates in the attick part of my shed before. a good breeze of air used blow through it but i think the moisture in the air rusted the rivets at the back of the skate. so my point is make sure there isnt a lot of moisture in the air where you dry them.....but maybe im wrong.

Dont pull up on the laces while tightening ur skate. Lots of people have ripped out the top eylet doing this, thats why i started to try not to do that n e more . And when taking off ur skates dont push on the tendon guard.

It's more of a "don't forget" type thing for me. It helps keep the skate in good shape, those Max Edge kits aren't a bad investment either.

I just put Shock Doctor insoles in mine, and I doubt I could get them out easily...they are in pretty snug. I don't hang them, but I always dry them well. they sit at the bottom of my locker on a rubber mat.

I'm into my 3rd year with them and they are in damn good shape so far...a little smell, but nothing too bad. Not as bad as my running shoes, so I'll call that a victory.
