Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2012 I play in a mid-level beer league, and I am interested in hearing other's opinions on how to defend a 2 on 1. It is important that I stress "beer league" in my scenario, so no coming at me with what your Junior C coach in Minnetonkafuck taught you when he wasn't too busy diddling the backup goalie in the back of the team bus.OK, so with that out of the way...how to properly defend a 2 on 1 in beer league. Personally, I play the shooter. And here's why.I KNOW that everyone and their Don Cherry wannabe older second cousin would say, "Play the guy without the puck, let the goalie take care of the shooter. Eh?"Now here's why I disagree...you play the guy without the puck, and you ignore the shooter...then the guy without the puck just has to slow down or even STOP and you are playing him like an a-hole while the shooter goes in on a now 1 on Ohhhh...shit!Awright, put on your plaid slacks and wig that Kurt Douglas wore in "Miracle" and have at it, boys. technophile 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2012 You don't play "the guy without the puck". You play the pass, cheating towards the shooter to make sure he can't cut across the center of the ice.If the weak side player stops, it's not a 2 on 1 anymore, it's a 1 on 1. So basically...you are almost in the middle, and cheat as you get closer to your net. I back this. I swear I've heard dudes on my bench talk about how in that sitch, you play to defend the pass and let the goalie take the shooter, and I'm just like, "Whaaaaat?"How about this technique, and this could be good for someone who might not be a strong backwards skater: you try to stay as perfectly in the middle as possible...then jump the shooter when you're at about even with the faceoff dots. BucksAway 16 Report post Posted February 8, 2012 Skate back and make them think your covering the pass and when they least expect it attack the shooter, shooter doesnt expect it and you will most likely break up the play - works for me
