Custom Palm

Recommended Posts

I work for a goalie school that also sells goalie equipment and while looking at some of the new blockers i noticed that there is a air/gel pad on the palm where the shaft of the stick would sit. Can this palm be directly sewn into a glove? can the insert be boought individually? I have never seen or heard of tis being done but I like a lot of cushion on my grip/knob but don't like that increased diameter for stickhandling so I was thinking about doing something like I described above. Thanks!

Do you mean like this heel wedge from TPS' (now Sherwood's) blocker palms?

Or more like this, from the Warrior Messiah:

Or something even more subtle, like this from the Reebok Larceny 9?

To keep it short... No, you can't just transplant these palms into player gloves: they would need to be modified. No, you can't buy the insert separately.

If you send your gloves to an *extremely* good repair shop, they *might* be able to modify a stock player palm to include a similar 'wedge' of low-density foam, or to sew it between the palm and a patch of suitable material.

Have you considered wearing a pair of gloves like these under your hockey gloves? Not ideal, of course, but it would give you an idea if you like it without spending a great deal of money on modifying your gloves.

After that your best option would be the one Law points out - work with a good shop to have them remove the padding from the bike gloves and sew it into the palm of your hockey glove.

Thanks guys. I Know it was a bauer blocker. I beleive it was an rx10. It really felt almost like a gel bladder between the palm layers as opposed to the wedge pictured above. I'll keep thinking about it

That would be easier to do. Essentially what you want is a thin layer of something - foam, gel, felt, etc. - sewn behind the palm, preferably sandwiched between layers.

The easiest way to do this would be to simply get a piece of headliner (thin open-cell foam backed with a polyester lining) and have it sewn behind the palm; the polyester would feel just fine against your hand. Apart from that, you're looking at adding at least one layer of palm-suitable material and whatever you want as the substrate.
