Pant Shell Questions

Recommended Posts

I recently made the switch from a traditional pant to the girdle/shell combo and I just have a few questions.

1. When trying to find NHL pant shells, is eBay the best option?

2. Are "padded outers" or variations of them just a shell with additional padding in the shell as well as kidneys? How much extra padding?

3. Are two-piece pants just a girdle and shell combined?

4. Is there a place other than eBay or PIAS to find randomly designed shells? So far, I have a pair of standard navy and standard black as well as some custom reds I picked up at PIAS that look like ranger colors. I'd like to pick up more color options as part of the pros of a girdle is being to change out the shells.

5. Is there a place to custom order a shell without placing an order for 10 or 15 plus shells? Basically, a couple of guys versus a team order.

Feel free to toss any other info regarding pant shells in. Thanks.

PSHG sells custom Easton shells but they're expensive as hell, unfortunately

I have a pair of pro stock RBK 9k girdle and shell, and I use to wear a bauer vapor girdle and a tackle shell. The 9K shell has a good deal of padding in it. But not that much like nothing you need or really notice. A two pice pant i believe is a whole different style of pant. It's a upper part of the pant which connects (i think by buttons like what would hold your suspenders on) to the lower part. I not a hundred percent on that but I'm pretty sure.

The pants I currently use have an upper half that has kidney and spine protection, then connects with buttons to the lowers. Those had the thigh pads and some additional tailbone padding. As far as protection goes, they are just about as good as any one piece pants I've seen. The fit is totally different though. They are much more snug around the legs and lower torso than a one piece pant would be. I'm a big fan of it though, as they feel really snug but they still move with you pretty well. I bought my pants at my lhs, which was lucky enough to have a bunch of notre dame pro stock pants that were ordered by mistake. Paid 60 bucks and I'm loving them.

1. PSHG gets some NHL shells occasionally

2. Padded outers are most likely padded lowers which are part of the two piece pants, they have thigh protection in them.

3. Two piece pants are not girdles. They are regular pants that separate at the waist. The uppers have the hip and tailbone pads attached to the kidney pads. The lowers are the shell of the pants and they button to the uppers at the waist, they also have all of the they protection built in.

4. PSHG does occasionally have some random shells

5. As stated previously PSHG offers custom easton shells

Our shop has had great success with Philly Express pant shells. He will make just a single shell or multiples (they get cheaper the more you buy). If you need help finding something specific let me know.
