Hi All,

After reading through some of the old vintage gear threads, its made me nostalgic for some of my old gear. I remember back in highschool(86-89), my dad took me to HA Zwicker's in Bedford MA for some new skates. Old man zwicker showed us some white swiss Grafs that he had just started selling. I remember getting fitted for these and thinking that they were the most comfortable skates I had ever worn. We'll, we ended up buying the grafs, which were expensive at the time if I recall correctly. Zwicker sharpened them for me with his famous "deep cut" sharpening which I think was a 9/16's hollow? I absolutely loved those skates. The only negative thing I can remember about them was that they would absorb about 10 lbs of water/sweat over the course of a game. Does anyone remember what model these would have been? I'd love to find a picture of those skates if possible. I'd love to hear from anyone that has similar memories when they were growing up.

Zwicker's deep cut was a 3/8 and the regular was 1/2. I bought Graf 501's sometime around '85 and I remember thinking it was huge that they were going for $125.

It could have been the 501's that I got. I remember that they came out with a skate a year or two later that had a "shock" decal on the ankle area that was supposedly to absorb impact on blocked shots.

I grew up playing in used skates (one income family, dad was a teacher). My first pair of skates as a mini-mite were actually a pair of Brian Rolstons that we bought from his dad at a skate swap in Ann Arbor back in the mid 80's. Anyhow, so it was used skates for me through peewees. At that point I saved up money for months from my paper route and bought a pair of Bauer Supreme Composites that were a cosmetic blemish for around $250 (I believe). Wore those through Bantam and Midgets, and by far were the most memorable piece of equipment I've ever owned... probably because I paid for them myself.

A couple of yrs ago a customer sent me a pair of new old stock Swiss grafs to install Tuuks on. They had wood soles!

The "shock" decal was on the 4000 as I recall. I had a pair in '83 or '84.

Was the "3000" the model prior to the 4000? I thought that might have been what I had back then but then I thought maybe I was confusing that with the 3000 holder..
