Pain above ankle Bauer one100's

Recommended Posts

I have been in one100,s for about a month. Love the skates, so far. In the past two weeks I have been getting a lot of pain on my right foot about a 1/2 inch up on my outside ankle on my left foot. ( my left foot is a 1/2 smaller them my right) it's not a blister it's almost a bone bruise. Has anyone experienced this and how did you resolve it.

Thanks in advance

I have pro-stock One95s and had a ton of pain on the inside ankle bones. Apparently Nick Grossman likes using extra memory foam pad inserts in his skates rather than having the padding a part of the skate, and thus, they have almost NO ankle padding. I use a 4"x6" piece of neoprene "thigh wrap" (anything like an ankle / back / knee brace made out of closed cell neoprene foam will work) folded over (basically making it 3"x4") and inserted into my sock (super-thin running-style ankle socks that reach just over the top of the boot) to provide the padding I need for my bony ankles. I don't know if what you have is lace bite, or an effect of having a slightly too large skate on the left foot (because of having to fit to the right foot), but for sure, if it's a bruise issue, padding will help.

I had this same problem years ago with Easton skates. There were not deep enough. After a proper LHS skate fiting, I ended up switching to Bauer Supreme skates, and no more issue for me.

isn`t it because the skates are too stiff? it might just be some breaking-in time, you may try to rebake them...

Thanks all. No not to stiff, I like stiff skates. I went to TSR today and they cut the skate open and inserted some foam in the problem spot then sewed it back up. He also flattened the tongue near the problem spot. Likely solved the problem, those guys are unreal when it comes to this stuff. Skating tommorow hopefully I'm good to go.

I've experienced the same thing. It started on the outside of my right ankle and now is present on my left ankle too. I have skinny ankles, and it seems the tongues are rotating slightly towards the outside of the boot. The thick felt is creating a pressure spot on my ankles. As the felt has compressed over time, the pain has decreased. I do have a bit of build up on my right ankle now.

I would think thinning the felt, rather than waiting for it to compress naturally, should resolve the issue.

Had the same problem when I wore one80's. Ended up shaving/feathering down the sides of the tongues. Fixed the problem immediately, but took about 1-2 weeks for the bruising to heal.
