CCM U+10 vs CCM Shock LE

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am probably the King of second guessing my own decisions. I recently purchased some CCM Shock LE skates (peranis exclusive i believe, basically the U 08 with upgraded tongue matching the higher models) on sale for 212, the three main reasons i chose them over the U 10's being

1. according to hockeymonkey weights, the 8 is actually lighter than the 10

2. the color combo is more neutral for uniforms (no red badges)

3. price point, being 80 bucks cheaper after discount code.

this seems fine and all, but after reading reviews of the U 10, i am starting to potentially regret my decision (based on reviews of the u08, there are no reviews on the shock LE that i could find). all the 10 reviews i see are glowing, like they are amazing skates worth their price x2. i am wondering if performance wise, anyone could easily justify me just ponying up the extra 80 bucks for 2 nights a week beer league player currently using CCM vector 08 skates with rocket runners still installed. My vectors are still in decent shape but im looking to convert those into my pond skates, and needed to replace the runner soon anyways, so figured another 140 for a new boot and holder wasnt too bad. plus i like to have backups of all my gear pieces just in case.

thanks everyone!

actually after looking at the different skate lines, i see another difference from the u08, its actually the same foot bed as the u 06 on the shock, which is weird to me, that the toungue is the u10 tongue, and the footbed is the 06, but the price is slightly above the 08. i guess now whats more important, the vented tongue, or the vented, composite footbed, or do i pony up and get both plus the better liner of the 10

ultimately it's your money, but it depends. You say you'll be on the ice twice a week, but how much do you weigh? The higher level U10 skate may be stiffer and last a bit longer than the U8.

Isn't the Shock actually the 06 with the 12 tongue?

The footbed shouldn't be too much of an issue, because the stock CCM footbeds (both from the 06 and the 10) are not very good and should probably be replaced anyway.

my weight is at 183 lbs, but i am looking to get down to about the 170 level.

yes, basically i was mis-informed

. i was expecting the vented composite outsole and its not, its the outsole on the 06.when i said footbed, i meant outsole, so sorry for that confusion. as for the footbed, i will likely do an after market one, the main thing is that outsole. i guess for me my main question is do you guys feel the air flow from the vented tongue would be adequate? and would the outsole material make a huge difference in the skates performance? i have pretty much talked myself into the extra cash for the U 10 seeing as though i dont go through skates too frequently anymore
