Broken Holder on my new skates (less than a week old)

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking here for quite some time and have found a wealth of information.

I'm wondering what my options are in this situation. I bought a pair of One100's from one of the larger online retailers since the only "LHS" within a couple hours of here is Play-It-Again Sports. My skates were delivered on Monday and I skated on them Tuesday Night and today at lunch. Both times at pick-up. Today I took a shot to the skate and after I came off the ice I noticed the holder broken broken at the rear tower.

So my questions are....

#1 - Shoud that be covered under warranty? Is that kind of breakage considered wear and tear?

#2 - Should I contact Bauer directly or contact the store I purchased them from?

#2 - If they are not covered, can I salvage the runner? It is definately bent from the holder breaking. I have already ordered replacement steel from Noicing and I was going to send these in for a profile once the new steel came in.

You'll probably need a RMA from the online company who sold you the skates before you can send them back in, provided they offer some type of customer support that is. You may have to pay for shipping your skates back.

You may need to go back to the dealer as Bauer does not normally deal directly with customers on warranty issues.

In my experience Bauer is pretty good with warranties, however, if you get someone on a bad, they could likely deny a claim as taking shots is considered normal usage and not a warranty issue.

Wait and see what Bauer says, but be prepared to have to send them back to the retailer and have them go to bat for you.

Good luck.

Just got off the phone. The retailer is going to replace the holder, I just have to send the skate in for repair. I'll be out my skates for a week or so, but at least they are getting fixed.

I had the same problem with my One 100's. The second time I skated on them I got hit with a puck and the holder cracked at the toe (I posted a pic in the show it off thread). Very annoying. It's been a couple months and I haven't had another issue. Good luck!

For future reference any Bauer dealer is able to deal with warranty issues even if you did not purchase the skates there. We have to deal with it all of the time. Its part of the agreement with Bauer when you become a dealer.

Would have loved to have known this before I ordered my one100's this week. However, looks like the warranty will handle any damages within the first year so I feel a bit more at ease with this.

I don't fault my one100's at all, just bad luck.

My skates are on their way back to me all fixed up. They fixed them no questions asked since the holders/runners are covered for a year.

This is not a problem unique to One100s or TUUK holders. Even if it weren't covered under warranty, holder replacement is not a bankbreaking expense.
