Bottom of stick blade wears down & breaks? what do you do?

Recommended Posts

So most people use composites now days but in roller hockey the bottom of the blade eventually gets worn out and the blade usually break because of this. I'm looking for ideas how to prolong the life of my blades (I use a shaft/blade combo). Other than taping my stick every game I was thinking about trying a thin layer of epoxy along the bottom of the blade over my tape. I've tried guarilla glue but it is a little too grippy on the sport court, I like the feel of a bare blade better than the taped blade feel but I want to make my blades last.

Any ideas?

thanks

Epoxy works well... I started a thread years ago on a technique I've used. Wood blades lasted me over 6 months compared to a month

Otherwise, why not use some abs blades

Since I started using decent composite blades I haven't had any issues with long term wear on the blades. They break from a hit, shot, poke check into the boards, long before they bottom ever starts to wear. What specific blades are you using?

Can you explain your technique?

I usually use top end Easton's and Bauer blades. Right now I have an eq50 and an se16.

I always put a strip of hockey tape run along the bottom edge of the blade before every game. You can sometimes get a couple of games out of each application. But if you get into a routine of doing this before every game, the bottom your blade will not wear out.

You can get hockey tape that has a glossy finish, which should reduce any drag that standard hockey tape may introduce? It's a fairly inexpensive option.

I found your old post when i did a google search...

ABS blades are heavy. I'm going to try some JB weld on it. I'll give an update after I try it out.
