Getting used to NXG skates...question for owners of TO or TO-NXG skates

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Just picked up a pair of NXGs. Tried skating in them last night, but have run into a bit of a problem. FWIW I've been playing competitive hockey for 20+ years and am a very strong skater.

I had X:60s before and left the top eyelet out to get more of a forward lean going when I was skating. It seems like the NXG eyelets are comparatively positioned "between" the eyelets of the X:60, so if I leave the top eyelet free in the NXG, I'm too forward, and if I lace it up I'm too upright.

For any owners or just knowledgeable people about the TotalOne skates, is there a solution, or do I just need to choose one or the other and get used to it?

The NXGs are a lower cut boot than your X:60s like you've noticed.

If you leave the top eyelet free, then perhaps try a stiffer insert and if you don't then go to a softer one for better forward flex.

I already had the X-Stiff ones in there --- the thing I'm worried most about is there's a pretty good crease in the insert already, not sure if that's because I tried them with the top eyelet out so it really strained the insert.
