Reebok Lacrosse Rib Protectors

Recommended Posts

I'm always looking for upgraded back protection since I spend most of my time in front of the net. Recently, I added a Schutt Football pad to the back of my shoulder pads and it worked great. I've switched over to the new Reebok Hybrid padded shirt, I haven't found a good way to work the pad into my current setup (CCM Vector Pro Girdle and Reebok Hybrid Shirt).

I've recently seen online Reebok Lacrosse Rib Protectors:

Was just curious if anyone had any opinions on these or as seen them in person. On a sidenote, is Reebok still in the lacrosse game or are they transitioning out of the sport?

I never used rib pads for lax but I know that Rbk doesn't have a huge presence in the game. Warrior, STX and Brine really have the bulk of the market share when it comes to protective wear in lacrosse. I can't imagine Rbk being another alternative but if price isn't a factor (yea right ha), I'd look to those three in terms of protection.

reebok lacrosse is geared more towards box or indoor lacrosse. they have an exclusive deal with the NLL, much like the AHL or ECHL being the only equipment supplier anyone can use, most of their endorsed players are canadian. as far as using any kind of rib pad on ice i found that rib pads really don't cover a ton of your ribs, more like kidneys and just above your waist line

Yeah I'm looking mainly for my lower back and these look like it might be a fit.

I know the Reebok 9k rib pads were designed for box but I don't think you'll like the protection they give you. In all my years of lacrosse peewee through NCAA I haven't seen any rib pads that offer much in protection.

Yeah, they're going to cover a bit more of the low back and kidney area, rather than ribs. They might even interfere a bit with the top of your girdle.

I'm not sure if they would work for hockey, when paired with hockey pants or a girdle, but I guess it's worth a try.

I grew up playing box lacrosse in Canada. The NLL rules are a little different to help open the ranks to more players who traditionally played field and NCAA players. Crosschecking is not only legal but the primary form of contact. I'm not sure if the rules have changed at all in Canadian Box, but when I grew up crosschecking from behind in a battle for a loose ball was merely a change of posession (which meant it was routine) and if you were standing in front of the other teams net while your team had possession then you were pretty much fair game to be engaged just like hockey(meaning you were crosschecked in the back, arms and hip/flank areas).

Thus we all wore a back/kidney pad that protected those areas. The link below includes several models designed for box that offer varying levels of protection. Several of them include the ability to remove the rib/flank protection leaving only the back pad. I think something here could work or be modified to provide the protection your looking for.

Especially the Under Armor or Gait models.
