Quasitd 1 Report post Posted August 9, 2012 A teammate was injured and came in to watch our game, I asked him to give me a bit of feedback about my on-ice items, since he would have a nice overview from up in the stands. My weakest point is my shot. He noticed I tend to make a circular sweeping motion almost when shooting, and am rotating a lot at the hips, but not getting as much of my shoulders/arms to push the puck straight rather than sweeping it into a shot. I have a shooting setup at home, and on dry-land I don't have that issue. Something about lacing up the skates changes my shooting motion a lot.Does anyone have any practice tips to try and retrain to a better shooting motion and eliminate that sweep a bit more? Or is it a matter of stick flex or length?
RussianDangler15 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2012 Perhaps the differenc in height is a factor. I notice just being in skates I'm able to load the stick much easier perhaps try building some sort of platform to stand on when you shoot or even put walking skate guards on your skates and shoot like that. Quasitd 1 Report post Posted August 9, 2012 My problem doesn't seem to be loading the stick on dry-land I seem to have more issues loading on skates...But really it's worth a shot, and generally and it should be an amusing project for a bit anyways.

It's difficult to simulat off-ice where you're more stale plus shooting pads provide more friction. In addition you're ~2" higher on skates which further affects shooting motion comparing with just shooting on the ground in your runners. So one thing that helps is off-ice shooting in roller skates. This is probably the closest you can come to simulating the on-ice shooting, but still it won't be the same so in addition I'd suggest simply going to a stick&puck and practice shooting until your hands fall off! CoachHealy 1 Report post Posted August 31, 2012 I would agree with Chadd. Advice without a video could be counter-productive. If there is any way that you could upload a video I think that plenty of people on here could help you out.
