blade stiffness effect on feel

Recommended Posts

Tried searching...Does anyone know the effect that the rigidity of the blade has on puck feel? obviously the interior construction of the foam and such has a lot to do with it, I'm talking simply about overall rigidity. thanks!

Based on the natural frequency being proportional to the square root of the stiffness divided by the mass, I'm guessing if you increase the stiffness and leave the mass of the blade constant, the natural frequency will go up and the vibrations may feel more pingy. However, the foam may dampen that feeling, and the changes in mass and the rest of the stick's stiffness would probably also impact the feeling... how, I don't know, there are several variables.

Ah... I couldn't resist giving a nerdy answer.

If everything else is constant, a harder blade will be less forgiving when catching a pass and have a more harsh feel. Obviously you can counteract that by using different internal materials.
