Time for new pants

Recommended Posts

I am going to need to replace my pants sometime soon(right now they are being held together in the inside leg area with some good old fashioned skate laces for stitching). The ones I have are about circa 2000-2001 CCM Powerlines. I love the fact that the padding is minnimal in all but the front thigh area. I have looked around and tried on almost every brand out there and it seems that the pants that are being manufactured today are way too bulky and restrictive. I play in your typical no check beer league so the minimal padding is not an issue.

I have also looked into a girdle/shell combo but still find it too bulky for my tastes. My question is... Has anyone run across any manufacturers making a pant similar in size and protection to the ones I have now? Would my best option be to just wear a shell over my falling apart pants I currently have?

I guess I should have been more specific. The area that feels bulky to me is the kidney, back and stomach pading. The pants I have now basically have no pads above the belt which is what I am looking for in a replacement pair. I tried taking the kidney pads out of a girdle but it still didn't feel quite right.

I would hate to drop the money on an expensive girdle just to have to cut off the top pads to make it feel comfortable.

Everything they make now seems to have padding up to your belly button and being a "rounder" shaped fellow doesnt help with that.

Go with a low end Bauer. I really miss mine (I think it was a One15 pant, I cant remember), but I needed better protection.

Mobile as all hell, even the plastic was thin enough that it would bend if need be. It literally felt like you were just wearing a pair of shorts out there.

Here are my old Bauers (on the left, obviously). I can't remember what model they were, but man they were comfy.

*EDIT*: Yep, they were One15 pants. http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/56826-easton-eq30-pants/#entry879401

Ever tried some pricepoint Bauer Supreme pants? The new Warrior models are pretty forgiving in those areas as well.

I have One55 and they are really not bulky at all and gives you a lot of motion, that is what I need since I'm still learning the game :D

I used to have the One35s when I was still learning too. They did the job well back then.

Only reason I upgraded from the One15 is because the tailbone protection was brutal, and I was still falling a lot at that point. I honestly wish I hadn't sold them, now.

Upgrading any kind of padding in pants is a very simple mod anyone can do. Cut/unstitch a seam, slide in additional plastic/foam inserts and restitch. The hardest part is actually finding the foam/plastics, though you can cannibalize that from almost anything with foam/cushioning. Bonus if you can find some old pair of pants meant for the garbage.

Oh yea, if I had just done that I'd have been happier. The one60 pants I have now aren't too bad though. Those EQ30 pants were stiff as all hell though.
