bologna 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2012 Guys,So me and some buddies were planning a trip (to where we don't know). We wanted to get a cabin near a lake/pond that is notorious for freezing and producing dope ice. It's more of a trip to get wasted and literally play hockey all day and all night. Couple kegs, flood lights, nets, women. Anyone know of such a heavenly place that exists? Serious suggestions please, I know Michigan, Minnesota and such have lakes/ponds but since I'm from Washington DC, I'm unaware of really anything up north and anything at this point will help. Appreciate it.-Bill Loney

How far are you willing to drive?i'm in Albany, NY you would defiantly need to go a little further north as of right now for some pond hockey its still in the high 30's low 40's here. sickwilly 37 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 Our lake (Northern Maine) froze over about a week or so ago. I wouldn't skate on it quite yet, though. Because of the snow and the wind that we have, there might be easier places to go. I think you could pull something like that off here, though.

sickwilly 37 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 I live on Madawaska Lake, which is about 20 minutes north of Caribou. Zip code is 04783. The ice gets awfully thick (I'd estimate 3.5-4 feet). It's a hell of a lot of work to keep a skating area clear with the amount of snow we can get.
pittu 15 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 We've had pond ice for a month and a half :) Southcentral Alaska.....If youre looking to do it this time of year, Id say upper peninsula of MI, or Northern WI/MN...But even in the U.P. it's been pretty mild weather this fall...If your talking about mid-winter then Lower michigan would probably be a good option. There is one HELL of a lot of driving difference between lower MI and Northern Minnesota if your coming from the east coast...As far as closest place to you, Id say due north would be the easiest, maine, vermont, NH...? Winters in Northern Maine are quite a bit longer and colder. Sometimes January here feels like living on Hoth.I'm originally from Southern Maine. We built a backyard rink about 30 years ago. I'm not so sure how well it would work now. I certainly would want to go more inland/north if I was hoping to plan a pond hockey vacation.

strosedefence34 175 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 Still Ontario or Quebec, or maybe somewhere in the Adirondacksid agree. It has been really cold here in Albany, NY these past few days, but not yet constant enough to where I would trust it.
bagsbie 8 Report post Posted February 2, 2013 Played pond in a couple of places in MA in January... Skated with my 6 year old in Vermont last week, just before the freak warm weather. You really need as little as 3 inches to skate safely. Any less and you'd better be sure it is not deep.
