Holder sizing

Recommended Posts

Im making the switch from bauers to ccms and I plan on doing a tuuk LS2 holder swap also. Im moving from some 6.5D vapor x4.0s to a pair of 5D U+ crazy lights and I need to know what size tuuk would fit on them?

A little backstory I started skating in 2011 in a pair of nikebauer XIV vapors and the entire time I had them till they broke down I experienced terrible pain in my arches and heels. I just accepted it as the norm and dealt with it, a year later I upgraded to some bauer X4.0s same size and still terrible pain in my arches and sides of my heels even after baking it twice. Ive ignored it so far because despite the pain I love the performance of the boot and the feel of the tuuks. Last month I had the chance to try my teamates U+12s and It was Mindblowing. I loved the fit, the heel lock actually worked, it didn't feel like I was skating with a rock in my skate, It was so comfortable. It realy was a great boot but I just could not get used to the Epro . After talking to a guy at the LHS about setting up the epro like the tuuk he said they could just swap them on for the price of the rivets. So now im about to pull the trigger on some junior sized crazy lights that are gonna get epoxied and redrilled but need to know what size LS2 tuuks would go on a pair of 5D CLs?

Before you waste your money with a holder change, please explain exactly what you didn't like any why you think it was the holders?

You could argue It was the 10' radius of the Epros but really the entire thing just felt off. The neutral pitch just made me feel like I was falling forward since Im so used to being on my heels and even after an ice time I still feel like Ive barely got an edge. Ive been on bauers for so long the only reason I stay with them is the holder. The boot fits terribly but the angle and blade transfer to the ice wonderfully, they just feel right. I went to my LHS to see if they could profile and shim the epro to make it more like the tuuk and he just suggested the LS2 swap Instead of trying to replicate it.

You might just want to try replacing the CCM steel with STEP's, more bulk up front than the "Proformance" on the CCMs which will not allow skate to rock forward as much. First though install some step in first at your store, not sharpened and see how they feel with skates on. If satisfactory, then have your shop do a 9' neutral radius (to match the Bauer's) and you should be good to go.
