Skate blade holder alignment

Recommended Posts

I know there is an old post that talks about mis-aligned blade holders...but I want to know how to actually fix it. I need to move my right holder out about 1-3mm. I have CCM U+ 12 skates with a plastic foot bed. Do I slot drill (make the hole wider, think oval as opposed to circle) the holes on the holder or in the skate foot bed? Also, should I switch to stainless steel screws and T bolts when doing this?

Yah sorry wasn't trying to say that wasn't the way to fix it you are correct however I just had that issue with a skate and even though I did all I could to mount in the correct spot for the player turned out when he got to his main camp it was the skate that was off but I see it. It was after they sent it back tot he factory they noticed the issue! So the team trainer was calling me a dumb ass for mounting it so far off and turned out it wasn't my fault I did what should have been done for the way the skate was built!

Well it's 2 fold. 1. The right blade is bent because the toes are mounted too far inward compared to the heel and 2. I supinate just enough to warrant wanting them out about 1-2 mm from what would have been centered. Didn't really notice til I went from a 1/2 radius to a 5/8 or 3/4 and bought some different steel. Looking back though my stride has really been off on my right side. I'm a pretty skilled skater who's been skating 30 years so its not in my head. My right foot does slide side to side at a certain point on the blade at a certain point in the stride. The new steel is step velocity (ordered regular step but the v's showed up). Ps- how do you guys suggest honing the velocity steel and what's the benefit ( can't say I've noticed a difference; though I do like th FBV I tried out when I bought them this week)

Oh ya. I broke my left foot and don't supinate as much on that side and the blade is mounter great/ factory center on that side with no issue. My buddy says the boot when tied up may affect the holder by actually twisting the holder a bit when fully tied up tight. Any thoughts. Like maybe going with screws, slotting the holders, marking my desired center points then tieing them up and have someone else tighten them down to the markings.

I dont hone Velocity at all I use a piece of leather with some polish on it. I would yes take both off and start from scratch. I have a great resin I picked up to use for the high end guys that will be on there skates a lot and let it harden a day then place it on where we all think it should work best. Then I use coppers to set up front and back have the player stand on them and then if slight changes have to be made then I can use the idea suggested above before re-drilling the whole skate.

Thanks much but how do you actually make the adjustment. Like do you drill the holder side to side, make the boot holes wider or what? I'm having a hard time actually getting the blade straight and slightly offset to the outside. I tried to slot the holes in the boot today with a little success but its real hard not to do. I mounted the holder with 6-32 x 1/4 t bolts with the prongs cut off and stainless cap screws. I managed to move it out a bit but still not 100% satisfied. Also is there such thing as a warped holder? You guys have been very helpful thanks !
