Difference between fit of RBK 20k/18k/16k VS. CCM U+ CL

Recommended Posts

What are the major differences between the way the current model year RBK skates fit, especially the 20k/18k/16k fit and the CCM U+ CL or 12?

Interested specifically with width.

SImilar. The CCMs are considerable deeper however. The high end CCM models (CL,12) are so heat reactive (thanks to the U Foam) that upon baking, they are malleable enough to expand between widths. For example, as wide as a CCM D width is out of the box, it has the potential to cross into the E/EE widths if that's required. The toebox, however, remains more or less static. This obviously doesn't mean a whole lot until you try them both on.

Yea, I will try them on. I'm just looking for the widest skate I can get so I would be getting an E skate in either. The CCM U+ CL skate is on sale quite a few places so it's an interesting option.

Try it on. Depending on the store, they may even let you bake them and try them on (due to the U foam). For me, it felt very wide when first trying them on but after baking it wraps over your foot quite well.

I'm more worried about them not being wide enough. I had to order online in E width. Wasn't sure which were wider the CCM E width or Reebok E width.

I recommend you try them on. Sounds like they could meet your "wide requirements". May even help you complete those forehand dekes in a shootout..

Based on my recent fitting for skates I found the Reebok's to fit Wider in the toe box through the forefoot and medium in the heal. The CCM's compared to the Reebok's had a mid width i the toe through the mid foot and mid/narrow heal.

Skates compares (everything in the store) but related to your post (Reebok 16/14K & CCM CL/12) all in 7.5 EE. My foot characteristics are as follows. Medium instep, Wide around the first knuckles of my feet, wide in the mid foot narrow ankles.

The CCM's felt more narrow to me out of the box (I did not bake them to see if they would stretch) because I had pain 5 min after lacing. The 16K/14K felt very good, however, 18 hours of skating later I am getting them punch in the bunion are of my foot. I am also noticing the ankle is not lock as much as I would like; not getting movement just feels more roomier higher up in the ankle.

Looking for some additional info. My son is about to make the jump from y to jr and am on the fence about whether to go with the CCM or Reebok. My question is about the arch. He has no arch at all and a fairly high instep. Around here no one carries anything quality in this size. I wanted to know if the arch on the CCM and reebok are the same or does CCM have more of an arch as I will likely have to order these. He wears 11k in 13.5 right now with no issues. I like the ufoam and price on CCM but worried about possible arch issue.

I went from a Reebok skate to a CCM U+ CL, and it seems so far that because of the U+ foam that they will accomodate a wider foot. I was convinced I would need an E width, but after baking the CCM's in D fit great.

I tried on and had a CCM CL baked and a Reebok 16K skate, and I found the arch to be lower in the CCM skate and the RBK skate was a little wider overall (both were in E width). The U Foam was great though. Took a half-size larger in the CCM Skate than the RBK. Overall, I decided on the RBK. Not so sure how the higher end (20k & 18k) would compare. And, I switched out the stock RBK footbeds and put in some SIDAS footbeds for a little better arch support. Neither arch was all that high in my opinion with the stock footbeds.
